RAUL EUGENIO ZAFFARONI
Eugenio Raul Zaffaroni , es doctor en Ciencias Jurídicas y Sociales por la Universidad Nacional del Litoral y abogado por la Facultad de Derecho y Ciencias Sociales de la Universidad de Buenos Aires. Profesor emerito de la Universidad de Buenos Aires, ha recibido doctorados HONORIS CAUSA en cuarenta y siete universidades europeas y americanas.
BIOGRAFIA: Es hijo de Eugenio Raúl Zaffaroni y de Elsa Clelia Cattaneo. Nació el 7
de enero de 1940, creció juntos a sus padres y abuelos. Cursó estudios primarios y secundarios en la Ciudad de Buenos Aires. Ingreso a la Facultad de Derecho a los dieciséis años. Se recibió de abogado y escribano a los 22 años, entre 1963 y 1964 se especializó en Criminología y en Ciencias Penales. En 1964 se doctoró en Ciencias Jurídicas y Sociales. Zaffaroni se destacó en la criminología y el Derecho Penal a partir de la publicación de su obra TEORIA DEL DELITO en 1973, mediante la cual realizó un aporte original a la teoría del delito desde la concepción finalista, difundiéndola en Argentina y América Latina y ampliándola con sus libros MANUAL DEL DERECHO PENAL, TRATADO DE DERECHO PENAL PARTE GENERAL y DERRECHO PENAL. Su obra pone el acento en el análisis crítico del poder punitivo del Estado y sus consecuencias negativas para los derechos humanos y los sectores más postergados, especialmente en las sociedades latinoamericanas. Fue pionero en la explicación del genocidio cometido por el ultimo gobierno de facto de la argentina sobre la base de la teoría criminológica. Es considerado el más destacado y leído tratadista de la ciencia penal iberoamericana. Ha sido reconocido como doctor HONORIS CAUSA en universidades de diversos países y premiado reiteradamente por su labor científica y en favor de los derechos humanos. TRAYECTORIA PUBLICA: Cargos en la administración de justicia: Juez de la Cámara Segunda de la Segunda Circunscripción Judicial de la Provincia de San Luis (1969-1973). Procurador general de Justicia de la Provincia de San Luis (1973-1975). Juez nacional en lo Criminal y Correccional Federal de la Capital Federal (1975- 1976). Juez nacional en lo Criminal de Sentencia de la Capital Federal (1976-1984). Juez de la Cámara Nacional de Apelaciones en lo Criminal y Correccional de la Capital Federal (1984-1990). Ministro de la Corte Suprema de Justicia de la Nación (2003-2014). Juez de la Corte Interamericana de Derechos Humanos. En 2014 las Madres de Plaza de Mayo le entregaron el pañuelo blanco que simboliza la lucha por los de’ rechos humanos, por su labor a favor de la justicia. Dr. RAÚL EUGENIO ZAFFARONI Eugenio Raúl Zaffaroni holds a dr in Legal and Social Sciences from the National University of the Litoral and a law degree from the Faculty of Law and Social Sciences of the University of Buenos Aires. Emeritus Professor at the University of Buenos Aires, he has received honorary doctorates from forty-seven European and American universities. BIOGRAPHY: He is the son of Eugenio Raúl Zaffaroni and Elsa Clelia Cattaneo. He was born on January 7, 1940, and grew up with his parents and grandparents. He completed his primary and secondary education in the City of Buenos Aires. He entered the Faculty of Law at sixteen. He graduated as a lawyer and notary at the age of 22. Between 1963 and 1964, he specialized in Criminology and Criminal Sciences. In 1964, he obtained his PhD in Legal and Social Sciences. Zaffaroni stood out in criminology and criminal law with the publication of his work "Theory of Crime" in 1973, in which he made an original contribution to the theory of crime from the finalist conception, spreading it in Argentina and Latin America and expanding it with his books "Manual of Criminal Law," "Treaty of Criminal Law General Part," and "Criminal Law." His work emphasizes the critical analysis of the punitive power of the State and its negative consequences for human rights and the most marginalized sectors, especially in Latin American societies. He was a pioneer in explaining the genocide committed by the last de facto government of Argentina based on criminological theory. He is considered the most prominent and read scholar of penal science in Ibero-America. He has been recognized as an honorary doctorate in universities of various countries and repeatedly awarded for his scientific work and advocacy for human rights. Attorney General of the Province of San Luis (1973-1975). Federal Criminal and Correctional Judge of the Federal Capital (1975-1976). National Criminal Judge of Sentences of the Federal Capital (1976-1984). Judge of the National Chamber of Criminal and Correctional Appeals of the Federal Capital (1984-1990). Minister of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (2003-2014). Judge of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights. In 2014, the Mothers of Plaza de Mayo presented him with the white scarf symbolizing the fight for human rights, in recognition of his work for justice.
