FGM, as well as other harmful traditional practices, including early marriage, face branding with sharp tools and abduction, are common among the Afar communities of Eastern Ethiopia. This has been threatening the lives of women and children and remains very prevalent. The practice of FGM, although now illegal in Ethiopia, continues and has been sustained by deep-rooted cultural values and habits. Despite world wide publicity and attention, FGM has proved to be difficult to eradicate. The problems in Dawe district are exacerbated by poor health service coverage and high maternal and child mortality rates caused by a variety of health-related factors. Afar is located in East Ethiopia with a population more than 1.8 million (CSA, 2013) and temperature ranges between 35-50 degree C. Afar regional state is one of the least developed in the country with very limited infrastructure, poor economic development and low access and use to social development institutions like education and health. It has the lowest girls schooling rate in Ethiopia.. Main objective of this research is to identify out the most influencing community group, its stake and hidden justification behind holding girls back from education. My research targets Afar pastoralist communities with a specific study districts to be selected randomly. The study specifically focuses on mothers, fathers, opinion leaders (clan and religious), girls and boys; teachers and government leaders at local level. The evidence would contribute to enhancing girls' education through policy recommendations, modifying interventions and approaches meant for pastoralists rather than universally applying same interventions to all community members blindly. I have deep motivation, the fluency in local languages, knowledge of traditions; local acceptance, presence of own organization to fully support, use, share and scale up the research in the future.
