SPRINT 1st Edition 2022 – Guidelines University of Exeter
Specific requests for proposals submissions from researchers at University of Exeter
FAPESP and University of Exeter signed a Cooperation Agreement for Research on October 21, 2020, aiming to implement scientific and technological cooperation between researchers from the UK, and from the State of Sao Paulo, Brazil, through the funding of joint research projects.
Under the referred Agreement, as a first action to promote such collaboration, FAPESP and University of Exeter make public this Call for Proposals for the exchange of researchers under the terms and conditions of the SPRINT 1st Edition 2022 (www.fapesp.br/sprint/call12022) and hereinafter set forth.
1. Eligibility from University of Exeter side
1.1 Eligibility to submit proposals within the scope of this Call:
Exeter faculty, where Exeter is the main employer (Please note that this is not open to Adjunct faculty)
1.2 Eligibility for the exchange activities within the scope of this Call
Exeter faculty as above.
Please note that the following items are not eligible for funding under this scheme:

Academic salaries

Student fees / tuition / scholarships

Indirect costs, overheads and bench fees associated with internal research facilities

Equipment
-
Venue hire costs

Publication costs
Note:
a. Proposals must aim to respect the principle of reciprocity with regard to academic qualifications of those who will take part in the exchange activities.
b. Eligibility of research partners in the State of São Paulo should observe the items 3.1 and 4.2 of FAPESP call (www.fapesp.br/sprint/call12022).
2. Fields of knowledge
This Call for Proposals invites research proposals in all fields of knowledge.
3. Duration of the project for the exchange of researchers
The maximum duration of each project is 18 months.

5. Funding principles
5.1 FAPESP will provide funding of up to the equivalent GBP£9,000 (Nine thousand pounds) per proposal per year and University of Exeter will provide funding of up to GBP£9,000 (Nine thousand pounds) per proposal per year, for the duration of the grant to cover research-related mobility expenses, under the provisions of Clause 5 of the Scientific Cooperation Agreement established by the Parties (www.fapesp.br/en/15019).
5.2 FAPESP and University of Exeter will fund a maximum of three (03) approved proposals.
6. Proposal characteristics for University of Exeter researchers:
The proposal shall be composed of:
6.1 A Research Project having a maximum of five (5) pages of scientific content, written jointly by the Principal Investigator of the Host Institution in the State of São Paulo and the Principal Investigator at University of Exeter. The Research Project must be written in English. One copy of the Research Project shall be sent to FAPESP and another (identical) copy to University of Exeter.
The Research Project must include the following:
a. A substantive description of the exchange activities, emphasizing their relevance. The proposal must state clearly how the exchange activities to be carried out will contribute to the ongoing research project funded by FAPESP and to the research being carried by the partner researcher at University of Exeter;
b. Detailed schedule of the exchange missions to be carried out by the University of Exeter team at the São Paulo institution and the São Paulo team at University of Exeter, considering the limit of missions and funding established in this Call;
c. Performance indicators for the planned activities, indicating the expected results;
d. A description of each candidate’s contribution to the mission, explaining their expertise to carry out the foreseen activities;
e. Foreseen actions that will add to the impact of the exchange for the University of Exeter and for the Host Institution in the State of São Paulo, e.g. by means of seminars, short courses or visits, etc.;
f. Description of how the Principal Investigators in São Paulo and in the University of Exeter intend to prepare a joint research project, resulting from the exchange activities developed from the proposal submitted in this Call, to be submitted to research funding agencies accessible in their regions in order to create a medium-long-term collaboration (up to one page).
6.2 The following additional documents are required from University of Exeter:
a. Written endorsements from the applicant’s Head of Department (or Line Manager) and from the Faculty D-PVC Global (or ADG in the case of applications from the Business School or Medical School).
7. Submission of proposals to University of Exeter
Proposals to University of Exeter must be submitted via email to gp-funding@exeter.ac.uk
8. Result of the analysis
Final results will be announced on the FAPESP and University of Exeter webportal (www.fapesp.br) and email communication directing to the FAPESP webportal
9. Contract for selected projects University of Exeter
Selected proposals will be subject to the conditions set forth in the letter of award.
10. Grant cancellation
University of Exeter may cancel funding of a University of Exeter researcher, if, during the grant timeframe, a significant event justifies its cancellation, at the discretion of the scientific director of each Institute, without prejudice of any other appropriate actions.
