Born on November 19, 1970 and holds the following qualifications: HND (Banking &Finance), BSc (Accounting), BSc (Economics), MSc (Accounting), MSc (Economics), MBA; PGD Computer Science; PhD (Accounting in view); AMNIM (Associate member Nigeria Institute of Management) and ACIB (Associate member of Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria. He became a fellow of the prestigious Institute of Bankers in December 2020.

He has 24 years banking experience and was elected an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria in 2002 and has been an active member of CIBN Akure, Ondo State Branch.

Assets Utilization and Performance of Manufacturing Firms in Nigeria

This study examined the effect of assets utilization on performance of selected manufacturing fir... more This study examined the effect of assets utilization on performance of selected manufacturing firms in Nigeria. Secondary data were collected from the annual report and accounts of the ten selected quoted firms for a period of five years spanning from 2012 to 2016. Data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics, correlation and regression analyses. The empirical results revealed that asset turnover(ATR) has positive and significant effect on return on assets (ROA) of the selected manufacturing firms as confirmed by the coefficient and probability value of 0.235999(p=0.0000). Current assets ratio also has positive and significant effect on return on assets with the coefficient of 0.109040 (p=0.0035) while debt assets ratio has negative but insignificant effect on return on assets. The overall coefficient of determination (R2)of 0.84951showed that about 85 % of the total variation in the ROA is explained by asset turnover (ATR), current ratio (CUR) and debt-assets rati...

Specifically, it examined the trends and effect of deficit budgeting, external financing and domestic financing of budget deficit and its implication on economic growth in Nigeria. Secondary method of data collection was used in the study. Data collected from the Central Bank of Nigeria Statistical Bulletin (CBN) 2016 were analyzed using descriptive statistics to determine the mean and standard deviation of the variables and Vector error correction regression analysis model for the estimation of the data. The effect of deficit budgeting on economic growth in Nigeria is positive and significant while external financing and domestic financing exerted significant negative effect on economic growth in Nigeria in the period of the study. Considering the negative effect of the financing strategies, the study recommended that Government should ensure that proceeds from debts financing are directed towards the growth of real sectors of the economy in terms of infrastructural and human capital development, in order to increase output and to have positive effect on economic growth.

This study empirically examined the effect of Federal Government of Nigeria Deposit on the core b... more This study empirically examined the effect of Federal Government of Nigeria Deposit on the core banking activity in Nigeria. Specifically, it examined the effect of government deposit on credit to the private sector. It assessed the effect of government deposit on total deposit mobilized and analyzed the effect of government deposit on loans and advances granted by these banks. The study used time series secondary data obtained from the CBN statistical bulletin, 2015 edition. Inferential statistics (correlation and regression analyses) were used for data analysis. Specifically, correlation analysis established the relationship among the variables, while the regression analysis model was used for the estimation of the data. The results from the research confirmed that Federal Government deposit had a positive and significant effect on credit to the private sector as indicated by the regression analysis coefficients and p-values of 0.593(p=0.016) for total credit to private sector, 0.528(p=0.036) for deposit mobilized and 0.497(p=0.050) for loans and advances. Based on the findings of this study, banks are strongly advised to focus on the other sectors of the economy for deposit mobilization instead of relying heavily on Federal Government fund alone.

This study evaluated the relevance of ratio analysis as a measure of performance of commercial ba... more This study evaluated the relevance of ratio analysis as a measure of performance of commercial banks in Nigeria for the period of 10 years 2006-2015. Secondary data of Access Bank, First Bank, Guarantee Trust Bank (GTB), United Bank for Africa (UBA), Union Bank, and Zenith Bank were used for the study. Financial ratios were employed to measure the profitability, liquidity and credit performance of these banks and the study found that banks' overall profitability performance increased by 9.6% from 2006-2008 while the performance was negative between 2009-2011 from-14.29% to-3.45% and finally banks' profitability performance decreased by 18% from 2012-2015. Liquidity performance, liquidity ratio fell by 61% from 50.48% to 19.62% in the period under review. Credit performance increased by 78% from 2006-2015. Capital adequacy was between 13.15%-15.34%. Statistical results indicated the significant relationship among the variables. The R 2 of 0.893 showed that Profit margin, Return on assets, Total loans and advances, Liquidity position and shareholders fund explained 89.3% of the variation in the Return on Equity of the selected banks under study. The relationship among the stated variables was significant, and the study, therefore, recommended the adoption of ratio analysis as a good measure of commercial banks performance in Nigeria.
