Though idea of openness i.e. open science and open access to information sources is not new, it is still not universally accepted and it is not understood equally in all parts of the world. The greatest benefits of open access can be observed in academic activities i.e. in research and teaching at academic institutions. However, open access is not understood and presented equally everywhere. There are differences in openness and rights of users in access and use of scientific and educational materials in open access digital repositories. While the number of open access digital repositories increases there are many questions waiting to be answered from quality of content, roles in management of open access information resources, responsibility for maintenance of digital information resources, financing of digital information resources, quality of scientific and educational digital resources etc.

Information and communication technology (ICT) has a great influence on scientific communication ... more Information and communication technology (ICT) has a great influence on scientific communication and work of scientists. Globally, scientists are experiencing changes in ways in which they create, find, share, process, store and use scientific information. They communicate in electronic environment with their colleagues, publish their works in electronic journals and store them in digital repositories and create virtual scientific communities. However, all aspects of scientific communication on the Internet are still not known, and require additional research. This paper offers an insight into number of aspects of communication between scientists at the Faculty of Social Science and Humanities in Zagreb.

Most recently, focus in technology enhanced learning is put on use of mobile devices i.e. mobile learning or m-learning. Mobile learning promotes concept of anytime anywhere learning which is important for students who frequently change places of learning and need access to the learning material as they move from one place to another. Such concept of learning is possible because more and more students have some type of a mobile device and mobile devices are mostly cheap, portable and flexible, have no start-up time, and require virtually no maintenance. While the mobile technology seems to be very attractive to students and usable in the learning process, there are also problems which burden further development of mobile learning or at least they are not helping its development: technological problems and obsolesce, lack of dig...

To find out more about these two topics, a research project was designed. The results confirmed regular use of printed and digital scientific information resources locally stored in library at the FHSS and off site as well as scientific information resources on the Internet. Students demonstrated their satisfaction with availability and quality of scientific information resources in library at the FHSS. Students' participation in the second activity - scientific research - is less than satisfactory as well as their activity of publishing results of their research. Both activities are important as they prepare students for future work as well as for lifelong learnin...

To find out more about these two topics, a research study was designed. The results confirmed that digital information resources are very popular among students for use in their education. The results also indicated the need of students to have constant access to digital information resources and to be able to store a selection of resources on their computers. The results also showed that students want digital information resources used in education to be available indefinitely and that their teachers should be responsible for care for digital information resources used in education, which is rather peculiar. Students think that digital information resources still cannot replace printed information resources. The ...

All three sides have a historical background of mutual collaboration. Influence of information and communication technology on all three sides has sped up their development and provided them with new tools for creation, organization, storage and exchange of knowledge. All three sides still haven't used a full potential of networked environment and internet services for the benefit of even richer collaboration and designing of new ICT supported services in science, libraries and teaching at higher education institutions that would enable richer scientific, library and educational experiences. The...
