    • Terminology

      MEAL SWIPE (DINE-IN) LOCATIONS

      Meal Swipe (Dine-In) locations are located at East Side Dining and West Side Dining, and accept meal swipes as a form of payment (Dining Dollars, Wolfie Wallet, credit/debit are also accepted).

      RETAIL LOCATIONS

      Retail locations sell items a la carte. There are many great Retail locations on the main campus. These locations accept Dining Dollars as a form of payment (credit/debit and Wolfie Wallet are also accepted). Meal Plan funds may only be used to purchase food and beverage items at on-campus dining locations.

      UNLIMITED MEAL PLANS

      Unlimited plans include Meal Swipes, Meal Exchanges, Guest Passes and Dining Dollars. Meal Swipes can be used at Meal Swipe (Dine-In) Locations. Meal Exchanges can be used at Roth Cafe. Guest passes can be used to pay for a friend or family members' meal at a Meal Swipe (Dine-In) Location. Dining Dollars may be used at any Retail location. Meal Swipes, Meal Exchanges and Guest Passes are for the entire semester and do not rollover. Remaining Meal Swipes, Meal Exchanges and Guest Passes are forfeited.

      BLOCK MEAL PLANS

      Block Plans include a set number of Meal Swipes per semester to pay for meals at Meal Swipe (Dine-In) Locations. One swipe will be deducted from your balance each time you pay for a meal. Meal Swipes are for the entire semester and do not rollover. Any remaining meal swipes are forfeited.

      DINING DOLLARS

      Each Dining Dollar is equivalent to $1.

      Dining Dollars may be used at any retail dining location, including the SBU Eats food trucks and at Stony Brook University Hospital dining locations. All dining locations also accept Wolfie Wallet and credit/debit.

      Dining Dollars roll over from Summer to Fall, Fall to Winter or Spring, but not to Summer or the following academic year (Spring to Fall). The last day to use Dining Dollars is commencement day of the Spring semester. Remaining balances are forfeited.

      MEAL SWIPES AND GUEST MEAL PASSES

      Meal Swipes may be used at West Side Dining or East Side Dining regardless of where you live. The choice is yours!

      Unlimited meal plans include Guest Passes which can be used to swipe in a friend or visiting family member at Meal Swipe (Dine-In) Locations. Guest passes may be used at Meal Swipe (Dine-In) Locations only.

      Meal Swipes and Guest Passes do not roll over and expire at the end of each semester. Remaining balances are forfeited.

      MEAL EXCHANGES

      If you are on the Wolfie Standard or Wolfie Deluxe meal plan, you may use a Meal Exchange (54 per semester*) at the following Roth Cafe locations: Subway®, Smash n’ Shake, and Savor. Each location has a special preset meal exchange menu option you can choose from.

      Don't forget, you can always use your Dining Dollars or Wolfie Wallet funds anytime at Roth Cafe!

      *Meal exchanges do not rollover from fall to spring or spring to fall. Any remaining meal exchanges are forfeited at the end of each semester.

    • WAIVERS AND MEDICAL EXEMPTIONS 
    • Waivers and Medical Exemptions

      Meal plan enrollment may be waived on a religious or medical basis only. Request for a waiver must be made in writing to the Campus Dining Registered Dietitian. This must be done prior to, or within two weeks of, moving on campus. Those residents who obtain a meal plan waiver will be required to reside in or relocate to a resident hall/area designated as cooking. A pro-rated weekly charge for a meal plan will result until the waiver is obtained.

      If you have special dietary needs based on allergies or other medical conditions it is important for you to set up an appointment with our Campus Dining Dietitian. We will evaluate your needs and dietary restrictions to determine whether or not SBU Eats is able to meet your needs. To make an appointment visit the SBU Eats website.

      Please contact Student Accessibility Support Center for meal plan accommodations. SASC will work collaboratively with the on campus dietitian regarding any dietary concerns. In order to meet your needs it would be best if documentation is submitted by the following dates:

      Incoming new students:

      • May 15 for the Fall Semester
      • December 15 for the Spring Semester
