This meditation could perhaps be more accurately titled " Why a candidate's presentation to the c... more This meditation could perhaps be more accurately titled " Why a candidate's presentation to the community at FPU should still be called a pilgrimage. " However, for obvious reasons, that title seems to lack pith and economy. " Pilgrimage " can be quite a daunting name for a significant event during a candidate's visit, since she will have encountered nothing like it. But I see our work at FPU as special and unusual, and this way of causing a recalibration in thinking is of some value in grasping our difference. We strive to be a community of learners, and learning can be most valuable when it takes us outside our comfort zone.3 We are not asking something easy of candidates—thence the REM quotation above.
