By examining communism of the recent past, this paper first shows how the communist leadership us... more By examining communism of the recent past, this paper first shows how the communist leadership used musical controls to stifle creativity and dictate identity for those under its influence. A comparison is then drawn to the Contemporary Worship Music industry. Second, this paper surveys the present state of music in several urban, Hungarian churches, concluding that certain capitalistic controls related to the CWM industry have limited production of original music for worship in these congregations. Third, this paper looks at a late twentieth century Hungarian model for artistic response to these societal controls. Finally, we turn our eyes to the future and imagine how a Hungarian Revival in Worship Music might appear.
