Roland G Kuhl
Roland has served within pastoral and academic contexts for over 40 years. He pastored churches in Canada - Ontario and Alberta, and in the United States - California, Indiana, and Illinois, where he has served within different denominations – United Methodist, North American Baptist, and Mennonite Church USA. He has served in academic and consulting organizations as Associate Dean of Extension and Affiliated Education at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, Director of the Doctor of Ministry program and Assistant Professor of Education and Ministry at Northern Seminary, and Director of Educational Initiatives for the Center for Parish Development, all in the Chicago area.Since July 2006, Roland has been on a journey to discover new directions for life and ministry and to relate to persons who have an uneasy relationship with the established church. This has engaged him in various initiatives connecting him with people who have been wounded by church and are done with church – yet still seeking to relate to God and/or Jesus Christ. In 2015, Roland stepped out completely from traditional ways of being engaged with church and became a community pastor connecting with and walking with the many people who are done with church, but not done with God. He comes alongside those who are seeking spiritual and life direction. Also in 2015, Roland became an adjunct online faculty member in Grand Canyon University facilitating courses in Christian ministry in their Ed.d in Organizational Leadership, Christian Ministry emphasis. Research interests focus on missional church, living missionally in culture, discerning the activity of the Spirit, the nature of leading in light of Christ Jesus, discipleship, and exploring the shape of a religionless theology that focuses on God's Story and Vision in relation to our being new creation humanity in the way of Jesus.Roland is an avid cyclist, hiker, and enjoys canoeing, kayaking, rock climbing, reading, as well as playing frisbee with his Black Lab/Australian Shepherd, Dakota. Most of all Roland enjoys hanging out with people in coffee shops, drinking great coffee, and engaging in conversation exploring life in the way of Jesus, making space for the Gospel in culture, and guiding others in being open to the life that the Spirit of God keeps unfolding everyday in all of us.
