It has seen turmoil and conflicts that have involved world powers with immense destruction, to creative and scientific achievements in many diverse walks of life, and everything in between. Being not only a physically large land mass in the world, but also having a large cultural and political presence, Russia fights for dominance and influence in the world setting. Often these fairy tales and stories derive from the most known versions, or classic versions, typically the tales that were written by the Grimm brothers. As time has gone on, and society and the world has changed, these fairy tales have changed as well. From gender roles to the subtle undertones of social hierarchy. However, these tales can be subjected to audiences with notable disparities from the originals, especially when brought to new cultures and countries around the world. Specifically, tales such as The Devil’s Three Golden Hairs and Disney’s Cinderella. These tales are vastly different from their original narratives, not only because of the format they are presented in, being in film, but also for the subtle and elusive undertones that represent gender roles, stereotypes, social hierarchy, and possibly even propaganda.

They also share a very common theme, magic and magical transformations. There is a distinctive relationship between nature, people, and magic in this. This magic can be represented in ways such as animals speaking, animals aiding humans, or animals behaving in human-like ways. However, magic is not the moral of these tales. Although magic is a very common theme in Russian fairy tales and folklore, in the Russian Fairy Tale, The Firebird and Princess Vasilisa, there is a more centralized theme being portrayed. This theme is greed, and how greed can be corrupting in its allure. Greed has an impact on many of the

Not only in these ways, but politically, economically, and culturally. Certain aspects of globalization have led to the spread of this virus, from travel to trade or to international business. The world is at a point of being the most interconnected it has ever been, through the internet, telecommunications, and social media. COVID-19 might have stopped certain aspects of our lives, but it has also affected globalization and global affairs. However, Mattelart believes that the strategies of propaganda actually set the stage for international radio on a global scale. Mattelart goes into detail about the origin of film, radio, and the various committees and organizations that surrounded these outlets. Mattelart writes about the “revelation” of propaganda and its main role in warfare, specifically starting in the first world war. A notable moment in this time period is the publishing of Public Opinion by Walter Lippmann in 1922. He developed a theory of “public opinion in relation to international peace, based on the behavior of the media” (37) after the first world war. Following the war, many US committees on this subject were dissolved or not used by the government, however the fast approaching wave of Nazi and ideological propaganda was unexpected.

Our devices allow us to be more interconnected with our friends, family, and coworkers than ever before. We are on our devices nearly all day, using apps like Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat to communicate. These apps let us express our interests, thoughts, and ourselves to a large audience of friends and colleagues. However, with such power to express yourself in this form, which age should this privilege be bestowed upon? How does the use of these apps and technology affect the development of young children and teenagers who are still developing their minds? Is this healthy and positive for their development? If not, what could the consequences and harm be, and can a solution be found? To answer this question we must start by looking at the data behind it. Pew Research center states that apps and websites like Snapchat, Youtube, and Instagram are the most popular online platforms for teenagers, and that “95% of teens have access to a smartphone, and 45% say they are online 'almost constantly'”. This means that teens have access to a vast amount of information, knowledge, and entertainment that is formatted in a way that is easily accessible, nearly all the time. How is this important to the development of teens? The most important comparison of opinions on social media use is between the parents, and the teens who use these applications and websites.

We are faced with relevant ethical questions continually. Mary Shelley's Frankenstein and Ridley Scott's 1982 Blade Runner are great examples of how ethical questions that are prevalent today can be translated into films and novels. Both pieces of fiction bring up the issue of consciousness, existence, and sentience. Despite vastly different environments, with the creation of a mythical, mysterious, and magical creature in Mary Shelly's Frankenstein and the science fiction and futuristic world of 1982 Blade Runner, they support the same truth. Reckless creation of sentient and conscious creatures, no matter zombie-like or android in nature, is a dangerous path that must be used with discretion. Mary Shelly's Frankenstein brings up this ethical question with the creation of the monster. The creation of the monster is not as descriptive as other adaptations, but we see the result of Victor Frankenstein's actions and his emotions. "I had desired it with an ardour that far exceeded moderation; but now that I had finished the beauty of the dream vanished, and breathless horror and disgust filled my heart, Unable to compose my mind to sleep." (Shelly 36). From the metaphorical "birth" of the creature, he is treated as a monster and not given a proper introduction into life.

Speaking honestly, I wasn't entirely sure what the word even really meant. I knew things could be “aesthetically pleasing” or fit an aesthetic, but I had never delved down into the intricacies and layers of what aesthetics really means, particularly what it means to me. Speaking on the matter of something that is pleasing, Aesthetics is no doubt about truth and beauty, but it is more than that, it is a feeling and something one can sense. Art surprisingly or unsparingly appeals to not only our emotions, but to our senses as well. Aesthetics is typically experienced through an encounter with aesthetics. Sir Robinson articulates the meaning of this perfectly in his TED talk, “Aesthetic experience is when your senses are operating at their peak, you are in the presence moment”.
