Taking into consideration the possibilities of growth and returns the tourism sector provides to the state of Punjab, of recent the Government of Punjab and the Amritsar city administration have made huge effort in expanding this sector by tapping and promoting various sites and activities for tourist absorption. This study delivers reasons for tourism development in Amritsar and proposes possible information for stakeholders to ensure the suitable tourism planning and management, especially contributing towards the local community. Materials and Methods. Prominent categories of business operators i.e., restaurant owners, traditional shopkeepers, employees from the hospitality sector which included hotels, guest houses, hostels and lastly travel agency owners were interviewed for this study. Women in urban public space endure various forms violence which obstructs their basic rights and ... more Women in urban public space endure various forms violence which obstructs their basic rights and liberty as equal citizens. Street harassment is one such unnoticed violence that profoundly impacts on the consciousness, physical and mental well-being and social life of women. The paper tries to reflect upon the issue of women's safety, exclusion and fear in public spaces by looking at the violence experienced by young women in form of ‘street harassment'. The data was collected from 160 university and college girls from Amritsar City of Punjab. Three focus group interviews were also conducted. It was found that girls/women do not consider themselves as equals in their right over the public spaces. Findings revealed that majority of the girls reported themselves as abused in more than fifty percent of their movement on street. The paper throws light on exclusion of Dalit community and locality that lies in the heart of holy city, Amritsar. Though, it is in no way physically segregated from the city, yet it continues to maintain its exclusivity in terms of its own anthropological past.
