El libro de Cohn, que reune y reelabora una serie de articulos publicados por la autora en diversas revistas especializadas durante los ultimos anos, toma como punto de partida una analogia de caracter historico entre el sur de los EE.UU. e Hispanoamerica, considerandolas regiones o espacios vecinos cuyas historias de derrotas, de conflictos politicos, sociales y raciales presentan puntos de comparacion. Hay motivos para contradecir semejante analogia, sin embargo la argumentacion de Cohn no deja de ser fructifera cuando lee comparativamente sobre el trasfondo de esa analogia textos de la narrativa del sur norteamericano y de la llamada nueva novela latinoamericana. El artículo analiza dos textos en hebreo de Penso de la Vega, un ex-converso de la comunidad judí... more El artículo analiza dos textos en hebreo de Penso de la Vega, un ex-converso de la comunidad judía de Amsterdam: la maqama, Fábulas de animales (1668) y el auto sacramental Prisioneros de la esperanza (1673), y enfoca las tradiciones de género y sus componentes poéticos. La transición entre ambas obras refleja la madurez de la concepción barroca alegórica que aparecerá en textos posteriores y, a nivel poetológico, es una alegoría, validación y exageración del conflicto interreligioso en sus aspectos político-sociales. El paso de la reelaboración en prosa de una leyenda talmúdica a un conflicto dramático alegórico se focaliza en el mensaje moral o la abstracción del relato e internaliza la polémica interreligiosa y la identificación de las partes con fuerzas anímicas. La obra temprana de Penso ejemplifica procesos de alegorización como la transición del conflicto histórico a un drama anímico, que ofrece nuevas percepciones del surgimiento de una poética psicomáquica.
