Laura F Hawkins
Harvard University, Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations, Acting Allston Burr Assistant Dean, Quincy House
I am an experienced researcher and an enthusiastic teacher with a demonstrated history of working in the research industry and in higher education. Trained as an Assyriologist at the University of Oxford (D.Phil. 2016), I use modern computational and traditional philological techniques to answer questions about ancient Mesopotamian languages, scripts, and cultures.
I also have interests in the modern Middle East and its cultural heritage. I have lived, worked, and traveled extensively in the region, including Egypt, Israel, Lebanon, Jordan, Syria, and Iraq. I speak Modern Standard Arabic, Egyptian Colloquial Arabic, Hebrew, and French, and I am in the process of learning Kurdish and Persian.
If you are interested in learning more about my work or in collaborating on a future project, please be in touch!
Supervisors: Prof. Jacob L. Dahl
