Yuri Feldman received the M.S. degree in radio physics and Ph.D. degree in molecular physics from the Kazan State University, Kazan, USSR, in 1973 and 1981, respectively. From 1973 to 1991, he was with the Laboratory of Molecular Biophysics, Kazan Institute of Biology, Academy of Science of the USSR. In 1991, he moved to The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel, where he is currently a Full Professor and the Head of the Soft Condensed Matter Physics Laboratory. He has spent over 40 years in the field and has more than 400 scientific publications related to dielectric spectroscopy and its applications. He holds 15 patents in the areas of electromagnetic properties of the matter. In 1992 and 2010, the Israel Government acknowledged his work with an award for the outstanding contribution to the development of Israel Science in Physics

Dielectric time domain spectroscopy measurements were performed on vinyl chloride/vinylidene chlo... more Dielectric time domain spectroscopy measurements were performed on vinyl chloride/vinylidene chloride copolymers in solution over a frequency range of 1 to 104 MHz. The dielectric absorption and dispersion have been studied at temperatures from −20°C to +20°C. The data were analyzed by using the Havriliak‐Negami equation and related to the motional behaviour. The dielectric correlation function was compared with those from different motional models used in NMR experiments.

Non-invasive glucose monitoring in patients with diabetes: A novel system based on impedance spectroscopy

The aim of this work was to evaluate the performance of a novel non-invasive continuous glucose-m... more The aim of this work was to evaluate the performance of a novel non-invasive continuous glucose-monitoring system based on impedance spectroscopy (IS) in patients with diabetes. Ten patients with type 1 diabetes (mean+/-S.D., age 28+/-8 years, BMI 24.2+/-3.2 kg/m(2) and HbA(1C) 7.3+/-1.6%) and five with type 2 diabetes (age 61+/-8 years, BMI 27.5+/-3.2 kg/m(2) and HbA(1C) 8.3+/-1.8%) took part in this study, which comprised a glucose clamp experiment followed by a 7-day outpatient evaluation. The measurements obtained by the NI-CGMD and the reference blood glucose-measuring techniques were evaluated using retrospective data evaluation procedures. Under less controlled outpatient conditions a correlation coefficient of r=0.640 and a standard error of prediction (SEP) of 45 mg dl(-1) with a total of 590 paired glucose measurements was found (versus r=0.926 and a SEP of 26 mg dl(-1) under controlled conditions). Clark error grid analyses (EGA) showed 56% of all values in zone A, 37% in B and 7% in C-E. In conclusion, these results indicate that IS in the used technical setting allows retrospective, continuous and truly non-invasive glucose monitoring under defined conditions for patients with diabetes. Technical advances and developments are needed to expand on this concept to bring the results from the outpatient study closer to those in the experimental section of the study. Further studies will not only help to evaluate the performance and limitations of using such a technique for non non-invasive glucose monitoring but also help to verify technical extensions towards a IS-based concept that offers improved performance under real life operating conditions.

ABSTRACT The use of time domain dielectric spectroscopy (TDDS) for the investigation of protein s... more ABSTRACT The use of time domain dielectric spectroscopy (TDDS) for the investigation of protein structure and dynamic behavior in solution seems to us suitable since this method permits us to obtain the information about the relaxation processes, associated with the intramolecular motions and Brownian tumbling as a whole. It is known that in the native state the protein represents a reasonably rigid packed globule. However, under the effect of external conditions, the structure of protein can undergo essential changes. Under the influence of temperature, denaturants, pH of solution, etc., the globule structure can be transformed into a disordered coil. The applications of TDDS measurements to dynamic structure investigation during different conformational transitions of proteins are presented
