The purpose of this study was to obtain teachers’, instructors’, trainee students’ and 12-14 year... more The purpose of this study was to obtain teachers’, instructors’, trainee students’ and 12-14 year old students’ opinions concerning the qualities required of PE teachers. The 24-item Physical Education Teacher Qualities Scale developed by Demirhan, Acikada, and Altay (1996) was used in the study. The scale was used in two forms. First, subjects selected the three most important qualities and graded them on a scale of 5- 106 PE teachers, 157 instructors, 240 trainee students and 309 students participated in this study which was carried out in the 1999-2000 academic year. The results of this study show similarities among the opinions of teachers, instructors and trainee students. The most important quality that the students favoured in their PE teachers was the competency of professional knowledge and skill.

In this study, we examined the effects of an 8-week short video-based Brain Break (HOPSports Company) PA program within physical education (PE) lessons on fitness and fitness knowledge among students. We studied 62 fifth-grade students (experimental group = 28; control group = 34) in the Ankara, Turkey school district. The experimental group received PE lessons once per week for eight weeks with the BB PA program, with extra videos viewed at home three days per week, while the control group received routine PE lessons during this period. We collected student responses to the Fitness Knowledge Test for Children and the Fitnessgram Test Battery before and after the experimental BB program. Results revealed that the experimental group showed increased fitness and fitness knowledge compared to the control group, showing that the BB PA videos can increase fitness...

Focus group interviews were conducted with 16 PE teachers from the research group. Data analysis was made through frequency and percentage calculations and the content analysis method. When the opinions of PE teachers were analyzed, it was seen that the usage of the courses related to general culture, pedagogic content knowledge, and field content knowledge were higher level and the courses related to teaching profession knowledge always worked for them. The aim of this study was to examine the relationships between gender and the educational grade o... more The aim of this study was to examine the relationships between gender and the educational grade on the one hand, and physical activity levels, motivation, self-identity, body dissatisfaction, the intention to be physically active and daily sitting time on the other, in a sample of Spanish high school adolescents. The sample consisted of 2087 Spanish students from the 3rd (n = 1141) and 4th grade (n = 946), both male (n = 1046) and female (n = 1041), ranging in age from 15 to 17 years old (M = 15.42; SD = .86). Students completed questionnaires to assess their levels of physical activity, self-identity, motivation, intention to be physically active and daily sitting time. The students' perceptions of their body height and mass were also tested. With the exception of walking MET values, the results showed gender differences in the variables tested. With such changes and developments experienced, the functions and responsibilities of the teachers also change, extending the field of function much wider. The teacher is no longer a person providing information or offering skill models, but is a person facilitating both the learning environment and the learning processes of the students. Focus group interviews were conducted with 16 PE teachers in the study and data were evaluated with the content analysis method. The results showed that their most important problems faced in practice were; management staffs thought that PE class are unimportant, qualifications of investigators were not efficient to assess PE class, not only parents but also girls were not interested in PE courses, PE teachers had missing information on personal rights, students were not bring sportswear, tools and equipment were insufficient, course time was limited, course planning-implementation-evaluation were not adequate because of crowded classes, students were not participated in extracurricular activities due to preparing for examinations. PE teachers’ suggested solutions for these problems were; arranging lectures emphasizing importance of PE for management staffs, parents and students.

Araştırma, Ankara ilinin Çankaya ilçesinde bulunan ve 6.sınıfta okumakta olan 192 (107 erkek, 85 kız) öğrenci üzerinde yürütülmüştür. Bu çalışmada, biri deney biri karşılaştırma grubu olarak basit seçkisiz örnekleme dayalı yöntemiyle iki grup seçilmiştir.
