My name is Hynek Schlawack, but I usually just go by Hynek (IPA: [ˈɦɪnɛk]). I’m a Pythonista, Gopher, conference speaker, and YouTuber from Berlin / Germany.
I write and run software that keeps a hosting provider and domain registrar online – mainly in Python and Go. If you want to know what’s on my mind and plate, you should follow my toots, tweets, learned lessons, and blog. I also give really good conference talks (often with a slant toward smaller-scale DevOps) and maintain way too many open-source projects. I also dabble in producing YouTube videos on the same topics!
If you’d like to be notified when I publish new content or significantly update an existing one (along with exclusive “director’s commentary” about what I did and why), you should check out my Hynek Did Something newsletter. It’s low-volume, free of tracking, and easy to unsubscribe.
All my writing, mentoring, conference speaking, and open-source work I do for free. In many cases, it even costs me money for stickers, travel visas, et cetera.
It would mean everything to me if you would choose to sponsor me. It’s the best way to help me to get myself motivated to spend my free time maintaining my projects and creating more free, helpful content for everybody.
Speaking
I have spoken and keynoted at conferences and companies from California to Moscow and Tokyo, and my talks have been consistently very well-received. If you would like me to speak at your event, don’t hesitate to get in touch with me to discuss details.
Generally, I’m happy to speak for free at community-organized non-profit conferences that will pay for my travels (flights, conference tickets, and hotel). I love speaking at small conferences, but can’t afford to pay my way there.
I will also speak at your for-profit event if we can agree on reasonable compensation.
Sorry, I don’t do online conferences anymore. I can’t justify the effort I put into the preparations of my talks.
Open Source
I’ve been involved with open-source software in general and the Python community in particular for a long time, and I’m honored to be a fellow of the Python Software Foundation.
I’m the author of several projects and a committer on many more – including Twisted and CPython.
Contact
While I’m honored by the numerous offers, I do not do guest posts on my blog. I also won’t participate in your SEO racket.
As such, I consider any inquiries in that regard as spam and do not respond to them. Thank you for your understanding.
The best way to get in touch with me is email.
I speak Czech 🇨🇿, German 🇩🇪, and English 🇺🇸.
