The wide range of different Fiber Reinforced Plastics with their different mechanical properties, urged the authors of this report to consider variable parameters in a complete analytical model to relate the flexural behavior to the changes in the material properties. Previous works have generally neglected both the influence on the ultimate behavior of the concrete confinement in the compression-zone and the tensile softening properties. The proposed analytical model takes into account these parameters, in order to follow crack propagation more accurately. A numerical simulation is carried out to check the validity of the model with experimental data obtained in lab tests. Suggestions are made to guide a proper design towards an economically effective use of materials and technology for the repairing and/or strengthening of existing concrete beams and for new structures.

The soil-structure interaction model is based on in situ investigations, defining a detailed soil profile and the relevant mechanical parameters, aimed at capturing the expected behaviour during seismic events. In particular an upper and lower soil stiffness, appropriate for low and high intensity seismic events have been considered, and a validation of upper values was also performed throughout an identification analysis, based on vibration records of the tower. Limit analysis method was then applied to identify the collapse mechanisms geometry, under the assumption that masonry is a no-tension material. This implies that at the limit of overturning, a part of the masonry will remain attached to the base and a stress-free diagonal surface of fracture will form

Reinforced repointing technique involves the application of materials having high tensile strength such as reinforcing steel bars, steel textile sheets or composite thin pultruded laminae with crack arrestor function, to reduce the vulnerability of masonry structures against in-plane actions. The main advantages of reinforced masonry are: compressive strength and ductility are increased, pseudo-vertical cracks are contrasted as well as the original aesthetic aspect of the masonry is saved being the strengthening materials embedded in the joints. In such a context, the results of an experimental program that involves small masonry specimens are presented. Several specimens are characterized by an initial crack obtained artificially by cutting the bricks, but also uncracked specimens have been considered. The pre-existent cut is intended to simulate a possible damage of a masonry element. The specimens are reinforced inserting twisted steel bars in the mortar joints and are subjected to a purposely designed splitting test
