A slot is engraved on its top surface of the SIW cavity, which generates four different resonant frequencies (around 6.54, 7.64, 8.30, and 9.60 GHz) when it is excited by four 50 Ω microstrip feed lines. Also, each resonant frequency can be controlled independently. Due to a quarter mode (QM) cavity, the antenna size becomes compact. The measured results show that the isolation between any two ports is more than 32 dB, and the estimated gain is more than 7.8 dBi at the operating frequencies. The proposed design is simple to fabricate, compact, and easy to integrate with the planner circuits.

Adoption of targeted-immunotherapeutics since 2011, may alter the risk of CH progression to tMDS/AML. To study this, we evaluated risk of tMDS and tAML in 667 588 ≥ 1-year survivors of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), renal cell carcinoma (RCC), melanoma and multiple-myeloma (MM) diagnosed during: 2000–2005, 2006–2010 and 2011–2016. The risk of tMDS increased significantly after NSCLC across all time periods (Ptrend = 0.002) while tAML risk decreased from 2006–2010 to 2011–2016, coinciding with increasing use of non-chemotherapeutic agents. tAML risk after RCC decreased (Ptrend = 0.007) whereas tMDS risk did not significantly change over time. Care management programs for high-risk patients have yielded inconsistent results in reducing hea... more Care management programs for high-risk patients have yielded inconsistent results in reducing health care expenditures. We reviewed the most successful programs and identified 5 best practice areas: (1) in-person patient meetings; (2) direct care manager/physician interaction; (3) provide transitional care services; (4) educate patients; and (5) provide medication review. We measured adherence to the best practices at baseline and at 6 and 9 months into the program for the highest-risk patients. The program increased adherence from baseline to each best practice area. Program enrollment increased at the 6-month follow-up but fell at the 9-month follow-up.

This study investigates plasma Aβ alterations between pre-symptomatic Dutch-type hereditary CAA (D-CAA) mutation-carriers (MC) and non-carriers (NC) using two Aβ measurement platforms. Seventeen pre-symptomatic members of a D-CAA pedigree were assembled and followed up 3–4 years later (NC = 8; MC = 9). Graphene has been used as an electrically tunable material for switchable devices. A large area f... more Graphene has been used as an electrically tunable material for switchable devices. A large area fabrication of Al-doped ZnO/Al2O3/graphene/Al2O3/gold/silicon device was enabled by a spin-processible hydrophilic mono-layer graphene oxide. The graphene was obtained directly from graphene oxide during the atomic layer deposition without other extra steps. A significant shift of Raman frequency up to 360 cm−1 was observed from graphene in the fabricated device, indicating a structural change in graphene. The absorption from the device was tunable with a negative voltage applied on the Al-doped ZnO side. The generated absorption change was sustainable when the voltage was off and erasable when a positive voltage was applied. The sustainability of tuned optical property in the graphene under investigation can lead to a design of device with less power consumption and many other applications.

Knowledge of BC emissions from TPPs is important in characterizing regional carbonaceous particulate emissions, understanding the fog/haze/smog formation, evaluating regional climate forcing, modeling aerosol optical parameters and concentrations of black carbon, and evaluating human health. The cell-surface glycoprotein CD44 is an important oral cancer stem cell (OCSC) marker and plays ... more The cell-surface glycoprotein CD44 is an important oral cancer stem cell (OCSC) marker and plays significant role in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) aggressiveness, however, the regulation of CD44 is incompletely understood. In the present study, 145 fresh human OSCC tissue specimens, including 18 adjacent normal, 42 noninvasive (N0), 53 invasive tumor samples (N) and 32 chemo-radiation resistant samples (RCRT), were included. The expression of CD44 standard (CD44s) and variants (CD44v4, CD44v6); the activation of pERK1/2, GSK3β, NICD (Notch) pathways; the cell viability; and the MMP-9/-2 activity were assessed using RT-PCR, immunohistochemistry, Western blotting, MTT assay and gelatin zymography. OSCC cell lines, including parental (SCC9/SCC4) and Cisplatin-resistant (CisR-SCC9/-SCC4) cells, were used. Knock down of CD44v4/CD44v6 (by siRNA) or inactivation of MAPK/PI3K pathways using specific PD98059/LY294002 was achieved for in vitro analysis of chemoresistance and invasion/migration. Elevated CD44 variants were associated with overall OSCC progression, chemoresistance and invasion. Positive correlations were observed, mainly between the expression of CD44v4 and the activation of ERK1/2 causing chemoresistance, whereas CD44v6 expression and inactivation of GSK3β caused invasiveness of OSCC. Cisplatin resistant, CisR-SCC9/SCC4 cell lines showed OCSC properties. Inhibition of MEK/ERK1/2 by SMI or knock down (KD) of CD44v4 by siRNA reversed cisplatin-resistance, whereas blocking the PI3K/Akt/GSK3β pathway by SMI or KD of CD44v6 isoforms by respective siRNA diminished invasion/metastasis potential. Collectively, our results demonstrated that CD44v4 expression is more linked with ERK1/2 activation and promote cisplatin resistance, whereas CD44v6 expression is associated primarily with PI3K/Akt/GSK3β activation and driving tumor invasion/migration.

Four-year (January 2011-December 2014) continuous MICROTOPS-II sun-photometer measurements at Varanasi, central Ganges valley, provide an opportunity to investigate the aerosol physical and optical properties and their variability. A large variation in aerosol optical depth (AOD: from 0.23 to 1.89, mean of 0.82 ± 0.31) and Ångström exponent (AE: from 0.19 to 1.44, mean of 0.96 ± 0.27) is observed, indicating a highly turbid atmospheric environment with significant heterogeneity in aerosol sources, types and optical properties. The highest seasonal means of both AOD and AE are observed in the post-monsoon (October-November) season (0.95 ± 0.31 for AOD and 1.16 ± 0.14 for AE) followed by winter (December, January, February; 0.97 ± 0.34 for AOD and 1.09 ± 0.20 for AE) and are mainly attributed to the accumulation of aerosols from urban and bioma...
Although various synthesis and characterization strategies have been employed for the synthesis o... more Although various synthesis and characterization strategies have been employed for the synthesis of crystalline nanowires, there is very little work done on development of low-dimensional amorphous semiconductors. This paper presents a simple strategy to grow amorphous InSb (-InSb) nanowires (NWs) in a chemical vapor deposition (CVD) system. The NWs were grown on Si substrate coated with indium film and the lack of crystallinity in the as-grown stoichiometric NWs was ascertained by Raman spectroscopy and electron transport measurements. A model proposed to explain the amorphous NW growth mechanism takes into account the fact that NW growth was carried out at the high temperature ramp-up rate of 75 ∘C/min. This high rate is believed to affect the growth kinematics and determine the arrangement of atoms in the growing NW. Raman spectrum of the as-grown sample shows a broad peak around 155 cm-1, indicative of the presence of high density of homopolar Sb-Sb bonds in the amorphous matrix....
Abstract This paper investigates the effect of different discretization schemes for observability... more Abstract This paper investigates the effect of different discretization schemes for observability analysis of distributed parameter models. While it is common knowledge that approximating an infinite-dimensional model can introduce non-physical numerical diffusion or numerical oscillation in the dynamics of finite dimensional approximation of the distributed parameter system, less attention has been paid to the effect that these approximations have on conclusions drawn about observability and controllability of the system. This paper addresses this point and presents a detailed analysis of results obtained for three approximation schemes for first-order hyperbolic partial differential equations (PDEs). The different, and sometimes misleading, conclusions that can be drawn for the three approximation schemes are discussed in detail and the analysis is illustrated with a numerical example. The case study illustrates the point that a model which may approximate the dynamic behavior of the distributed system accurately may not necessarily correctly reflect observability of the original distributed system.
