In the present work, the cultivars of Plectranthus forskohlii have been collected from Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka at different places. The accessions collected from Karnataka showed high tuber size, length and volume when compared to accessions collected from Tamil Nadu and Kerala. The most significant observation was made in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu cultivar accessions which were grown in the same soil in field condition have much branched root tuber with significant fresh weight as compared with accessions from Kerala. The Kerala accessions were observed with less diffused root tuber with low fresh weight. On the basis of the present research, it was concluded that the phenotypic variations present in leaf, stem and root characters might be due to some genetic heritable variation which may exist in the accessions collected from different locality, and this require further study ...

Methods: Invitro antioxidant activity of methanolic seed extract of M. pruriens was evaluated by DPPH, total phenol, flavanoid , anthocyanin superoxide radicals scavenging and metal chelation activity. Results: 1, 1-diphenyl 2-picryl hydrazyl (DPPH) assay, total phenol and total flavanoids of black seed were higher than the white seed. On the other hand superoxide scavenging, metal chelates activity of the black seed variety also higher than white seed. This study showed that the medicinal potential of black and white seed varieties of M. pruriens and positive relationship between total phenol content and antioxidant activities in M. pruriens. Conclusion: The results of the present study strongly revel that the methanolic extract of black seeds of Mucuna pruriens has potent antioxidant activity than the white seed extracts.

During HR the ROI play in different roles to trigger the defense mechanism of plants to protect from the destruction nature of diseases. Many findings provide direct evidence for the involvement of ROI in mediating pathogen induced PCD. Programmed cell death (PCD, or apoptosis) is a basic process for elimination of redundant and damaged cells in multicellular organisms, which operates in the course of their development and in response to various stress-inducing stimuli. PCD in plant and animal kingdoms has a number of morphological features in common, yet PCD mechanisms are far better understood in animals than in plants. Here, we have reviewed the effects of pests on plant metabolisms which may/may not lead to PCD and other metabolic alteration. This mini-review describes some specific areas of plant-pest interaction, with special emphasis on regulatory pathways.

Amorphophallus campanulatus (Elephant Foot Yam) is a rich source of starch, essential amino acids and therefore, used as a vegetable. It is cultivated and utilized in various regions of South India. Triazole compounds are widely used systemic fungicides to control diseases in plants and animals. Many of the triazole compounds have both fungi toxic and plant growth regulating properties. Hence, an attempt was made to study the effect of triadimefon, paclobutrazol, and propiconazole on growth and photosynthetic characteristics of Amorphophallus campanulatus. Triazole compounds increased total root length, dry weight, moisture content, chlorophyll and carotenoid contents, intercellular CO2 concentration, net photosynthetic rate (PN) and water use efficiency (WUE). On the other hand, petiole length, total leaf area, transpiration rate (TR) and stomatal conductance were decreased. Among the triazole compounds, paclobutrazol showed higher effectiveness than the other two triazole...

Nowadays, there are great number of plant DNA extraction method and commercially available extraction kit are also becoming more and more popular. It appears that different procedures work best for different plant groups. Thus in the genetic studies of P.forskohlii , which DNA extraction method to choose becomes a concern. To solve this problem, three classic plant DNA isolation methods, including commercial kit was also undertaken. The DNA extracted by these three methods from fresh young leaf tissue of P.forskohlii was analyzed according to their cost and time, yield, purity, integrity and PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) based downstream analysis. After the evaluation, one most suitable modified method, described by Sunil Kumar Sahu et al 2012 was selected and chosen for isolating DNA from young leaves of P.forskohlii . The extracts were found to have different levels of antioxidant properties in the systems tested. Considering all the activities, it can be said that Moringa pterygosperma has good activity amongst the five plant materials screened for their antioxidant properties. Lowest activity was found in Chenopodium album while fresh. Same varieties of Leafy vegetables were stored for next 24 hrs, then the antioxidant activities were analysed, and showed very less radical scavenging activity then the fresh leaves.

Each plant was treated with one liter of aqueous solution containing 20 mg L -1 triadimefon and 15 mg L -1 hexaconazole on 40, 55 and 70 days after planting (DAP). The treatments were given by soil drenching. The plants were harvested on 45, 60, 75, 90 and 105 DAP and used for analyzing antioxidant contents and antioxidant enzyme activities. It was found that these triazole compounds increase the contents of ascorbic acid, α-tocopherol, riboflavin, anthocyanin, and xanthophylls and activities of ascorbate peroxidase, superoxide dismutase, and catalase activities at 105 DAP. Triadimefon and hexaconazole treatments increased the antioxidation status in all ...
