Les résultats montrent un haut degré de fidélité interjuges, les coefficients de corrélation se chiffrant entre .93

Participants used either the superordinate labels masculin/féminin or the singular indefinite articles un/une to classify French target nouns. Reaction time to the labels masculin/féminin was about 200 ms longer than to the un/une labels. When the indefinite articles were used, a single P3 peak of the event-related potential was elicited. When superordinate labels were used, a double-peaked positivity was observed. The latency of the initial P3 in the masculin/féminin trials was not significantly different from that in the un/une trials. The second positive wave peaked approximately 300 ms following the first. An explanation consistent with these data is that subjects used a two-stage process to classify the nouns appearing with superordinate labels.

The six sections bear on the following themes: (a) historical, theoretical and methodological foundations of the discipline, (b) sensory information processing, (c) organization of motor activity, (d) emotional, motivational, and social processes, (e) symbolic and language processes, and (f) learning, memory, and problem-solving. This handbook was intended to achieve two goals. The first was to support the training of students; the second was to provide instructors and researchers with a reliable source of scientific information. On the whole, this handbook is a monumental achievement, for its breadth, wealth of up-to-date information, and rigor of presentation. The various contributions convey a large number of concepts and empirical findings, and they raise basic theoretical issues. Fundamental problems of Experimental Psychology and topics that are often poorly documented elsewhere are addressed, sometimes with remarkable insight. The handbook seems to be intended primarily for advanced undergraduate and graduate students... (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2012 APA, all rights reserved)

The hook technique involved associating the new items with an overlearned series of French stimulus words and images, which could be retrieved during recall using a number code. The rote condition involved the technique without imagery. The recall items, presented with their translation equivalents on the study trial, varied in familiarity and concreteness. Recall following 1 study trial was much higher for words learned by imagery than by rote. This effect was slightly qualified by familiarity and concreteness, which also affected recall. Translation tests given before and (unexpectedly) 1 day after the recall experiment showed that correct translations of relatively unfamiliar items increased more after study by imagery than after rote study. Thus, imagery simultaneously facilitated both recall and comprehension. (19 ref)

Human Ss: 40 normal male and female Canadian adults (aged 17–32 yrs) (university students) (native French speakers) (Exp 1). 40 normal male and female Canadian adults (aged 17–47 yrs) (university students) (native French speakers) (Exp 2). In both experiments, Ss were asked to categorize animate and inanimate nouns beginning with consonants or vowels according to their grammatical gender. In 1 experimental condition, Ss used the labels "feminine" and "masculine" to express their choice of gender. In another condition, Ss used the indefinite feminine article ("une") or the indefinite masculine article ("un") to express their choice of gender. In Exp 1, animate and inanimate nouns were mixed together in the experimental list. In Exp 2, animate and inanimate nouns were presented in semantically homogeneous blocks. The speed and error rates of Ss' categorization performances were determined. (English abstract) (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2012 APA, all rights reserved)
