The construct of mood is widely used as a mesure of the strenght with which individuals experience emotion. It has been found that although two major dimensions of mood –positive and negative emotions- are virtuallly uncorrelated over long periods of time, they are negatively correlated over short intervals. This led researchers to postulate that through time these moods can be explained by two constructs: frecuency and controlability. The present study aims to clarify whether frecuency and controllability on mood would be related to strategies that people use to handle stressing situations. In this study 43 unemployed male and 35 unemployed female were tested with the Adjective Differential Inventory for Mood Study (Tous Rail & Andrés, 1991) and the Ways of Coping Questionnaire-R (Folkman & Lazurus, 1984). Findings showed that frequency and perceived control about the main dimensions of mood activity, arousal and st...

The Argentine standard scores for Eysenck's Personality Inventory (EPI) and Eysenck's Personality Questionnaire (EPQ), based on large samples (N = 4000), male and female, belonging to different chronological layers and representing different zones of the country, are presented in this paper. For each direct score, obtained for each principal personality dimension explored through Eysenck's questionnaires, corresponding standardized scores are calculated. Standard scores based on Z (linear) and T note (standardized linear) punctuations are offered as well as the corresponding percentage of area under normal distribution. Statistical differences (Student's "t") between the English standard scores (in use in our country and the rest of Latin America) and those obtained in this study on samples of Argentine subjects are determined. A discriminative profile concerning the...

The Endler Multidimensional Interaction Model of Anxiety emphasizes the dynamic process of interaction between behavior, situational factors, and person. In the present study, the original model of Endler is extended, including among the person variables a hierarchical arrangement of personality dimensions like arousal or activation level (Eysenck, 1987). This theoretical approach constitutes the framework in which the present empirical verification is carried out. Such verification is oriented to delve deeply into the knowledge of the factors that have a bearing upon success and failure in the argentine elementary school. The interrelations between the principal Eysenckian personality dimensions (explored by EPQ-J) and the level of anxiety-state in front of examination situations (explored by Allpert and Haber's Inventory) on the academic performance as indicator of academic achievement (success/failure), are explo...

An analysis of the evolution of psychology from behaviorism of the 50s, through the cognitivism of the 80s, to the ecological approach of the early 90s is made. RESUMEN: Se efectúa un análisis de la evolución de la psicología desde el conductismo de la década de los 50, pasando por el cognitivismo de la década de los 80, para rematar en el enfoque ecológico propio de comienzos de los 90.

The interrelations between sociometric status, Eysenckian personality dimensions, and academic performance, were explored in a sample of 94 schoolchildren (50 girls and 44 boys). The sociometric position of the pupils appears to be clearly linked with academic success/failure in that the children with good performance are the ones more frequently chosen by their peers both to study and to play with, and the ones with poor performance are the most frequently rejected. The use of assertive strategies to solve peer conflicts generates the greater number of rejections at play time, while prosocial behaviours increase popularity and favour the choices. The personality dimensions related to extraversion and psychoticism show significant associations with schoolchildren’s social competence. The higher the level of extraversion, the greater the number of choices, regardless of aca...

A concrete experience in the teaching-learning process of Methodology of the Investigation at the School of Psychology (National University of San Luis, Argentina) is described. Each of the stages of research is exemplified through a laboratory experiment based on the Eysenck personality theory. In this case, the research problem was to find possible relationships between personality variables and the amount of salivation as a characteristic neurophysiological response of the two poles of the temperamental dimension ("introversion-extraversion"). Results are discussed in two parallel planes: on the one hand, findings emerging of scientific problem raised, and on the other hand, the quality of learning of the methodology by students through their direct experience in a specific research. RESUMEN: Se describe una experiencia concreta en el proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje de la Metodología de la ...
