This experiment was conducted at the two ecological zones, Sudan savannah in Kano State and Guinea savannah in Bauchi state of Nigeria during the 2016 cropping season. The design of the experiment was Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with seven treatments and four replications in each site. The treatments were; legume fix, alosca, 50 kg N ha-1, cattle manure, legume fix + cattle manure, alosca + cattle manure and control. The result showed that Legume fix had the highest grain N uptake (90.51 kg N ha-1) which differed significantly (P≤0.001) from the rest of the treatments. At Guinea savannah legume fix gave the highest N uptake value (95.53 kg N ha-1) which was significantly different from all treatments except legume fix + cattle manure. However, 50 kg N ha-1 gave the least (48.64 kg N ha-1) even lower than the control and differs si...

Seeds of six common bean varieties (Polista, Nebraska, Goro, Helda, Duel and Giza 6) were soaked in water or 10 −4 M aerated solution of salicylic acid (SA) for 6 h. Treated and untreated seeds were germinated at 25 ○ C (optimal temperature) and at 15 ○ C (suboptimal temperature or chilling stress) under dark controlled conditions for 9 and 30 days , respectively. Germination and seedling growth of the six tested varieties were significantly hindered under low temperature. Seed treatments with SA significantly improved germination percentage, germination rate and seedling criteria, compared with control seeds under optimal and low temperature stress conditions. The content of Indolacetic acid (IAA), Gibberellic acid (GA 3) and Abscisic acid (ABA) increased in the different varieties under study, in response to seed soaking in 10 −4 M SA at 15°C. GA 3 /ABA ratio sho...

The GA3/ABA ratio was the most important hormone factor, which promoted germination in seeds soaked in H2O and led to improved germination performance. This ratio showed slight variations between hydroprimed and osmoprimed seeds after 8 hours, but afterwards, from 3 to 7 days, it was gradually increased in the osmoprimed seeds and was substantially elevated in seeds germinating in H2O. Changes in the concentrations of phenolic compounds suggested their possible role in germination silencing in the osmoprimed seeds, but at relatively low concentrations. Protein patterns showed no marked variations in hydroprimed and osmoprimed seeds after 8 hours, but different types were observed, particularly after 7 days. A comparison of the protein...

Because of the absence of sexual reproduction in this fungus, other methods of genetic improvement have been developed such as proptoplast fusion to enhance its bicontrol potential. Therefore the objectives of this study were; 1) protoplast fusion and regeneration of two fungicide tolerant mutants of Trichoderma viride and T. harzianum 2) using ISSR for fingerprinting of inter-specific protoplast fusants and 3) assessment of antagonistic ability of Trichoderma fusants against three soil born diseases. Protoplast was isolated from two fungicide tolerant mutants PTv-V and PTz-F of Trichoderma,. The frequency of fusion tolerant to both pesticides was about 0.3 % and eight fusants were selected for further studies. In fusant stability experiments, only five of these fusants were the result of nuclear fusion of parental cells. Molecular characterization of two stable fusants using ISSR indicated ...

The genetic materials used in this study included six ecotypes of jew's mallow, which were collected from different regions of Egypt in addition to Eskandarany cultivar. This work was designed to study plant response to different sowing dates in different locations to detect the proper one that achieve maximum yield of seed and fresh foliage of the seven Jew’s mallow genotypes. It was found that sowing Eskandarany cultivar in Kaha and Mansoura on mid of May gave the highest total fresh leafy yield. Meanwhile, the best seed yield of Eskandarany cultivar was obtained by sowing in Mansoura on mid of May or mid of June and in Alexandria on mid of April. Sowing balady el-esma'aellyia ecotype in Alexandria on mid of June gave the highest fresh leafy yield and seed yield. However, the highest fresh leafy yield of balady bani sweef ecotype was obtained by sowing in Mansoura district on mid of May. Two experiments were conducted during winter seasons of 20122013 and 2013-2014 in productivity greenhouse at Kaha, Qalyubia Governorate, Horticulture Research Station, Egypt to investigate the effect of spent mushroom compost extract (SMCE), plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) and cyanobacteria (individually and their mixture) as soil drench biofertilizer on squash (var. Eskandarani) growth, green fruit yield and seed yield as well as to compensate half reduction of mineral nitrogen under drip irrigation system. Data revealed that all biological inoculations with 50% of recommended mineral nitrogen enhanced the vegetative growth (stem length, number of leaves, leaf area, fresh and dry weights of plant), seed yield, weight of 100 seeds and NPK values of leaves with best performance by their mixture. The magnitude of the reco...
