Um diálogo entre a história do Timor-Leste e o livro Mar Meu (1998), de Xanana Gusmão, o líder da... more Um diálogo entre a história do Timor-Leste e o livro Mar Meu (1998), de Xanana Gusmão, o líder da resistência timorense contra a Indonésia. Esse é o propósito desta tese ao recuperar as invasões, as guerras e a opressão que marcaram os principais capítulos da narrativa histórica
do Timor e ressignificaram o processo de construção de uma identidade nacional. Os poemas e as pinturas que compõem a obra de Xanana foram elaborados na prisão, em Cipinang, na Indonésia, e são apresentados como fragmentos da memória de um autor que vivenciou a experiência dos traumas, da diáspora, da barbárie e da violação do direito à vida e à liberdade. Enquanto as pinturas evocam, predominantemente, paisagens tranquilas, as quais podem ser
associadas ao desejo do artista que almejava a paz e a soberania do Timor, os poemas concretizam o artifício utilizado para dar continuidade à luta contra a Indonésia. Neles estão as vozes das crianças, das mulheres e de todos os timorenses que por mais de duas décadas
conviveram com a morte, a tortura, a privação de liberdade, entre tantas outras formas de violência. Na busca por apoio da comunidade internacional, que se manteve até 1999 praticamente em silêncio frente a um genocídio, seus versos representavam o grito de socorro
de um povo e de uma cultura que insistiam em resistir mesmo quando a ocupação e a integração à Indonésia pareciam irreversíveis. Nesse contexto, a língua portuguesa se torna, além de símbolo, instrumento de resistência. Por isso esta investigação ainda discorre sobre a
colonização portuguesa e seus principais aspectos, uma vez que compreender o período colonial em Timor possibilitou inferir que não se pode considerar a existência de uma Literatura de Resistência em Timor apartada da língua portuguesa. A concepção teórica sobre
a Literatura de Testemunho também serviu como direcionamento para que os poemas fossem lidos como manifestação do real, e não como mimese. Assim, nesta pesquisa, Literatura de Testemunho e Literatura de Resistência são tratadas como vertentes teóricas que estão
intrinsecamente ligadas, o que se reflete em um eu lírico que revela e denuncia o trauma a partir de memórias de um poeta diaspórico. Conclui-se, então, que Mar Meu (1998) é a expressão artística de Xanana Gusmão, um homem engajado na vida política, que, quando
privado da liberdade, recorreu à arte para recuperar a humanidade do homem. Seus versos tornam a (outra) história do Timor visível para o mundo e preservam os momentos mais difíceis vividos pelo povo timorense. Enfim, passados os tempos mais sombrios na ilha do
Timor, sua obra é uma expressão poética que também resiste para (re)construir a identidade timorense.
