The designed antenna has a ring-shaped Defected Ground Structure (DGS) in the ground plane. The proposed antenna operates at 28GHz (27.68GHz – 28.55GHz, 3.10%), which is a proposed frequency for 5G. A ring-shaped Defected Ground Structure is suitably inserted in the ground plane resulting in an additional frequency band at 38GHz (37.13GHz – 38.20GHz, 2.81%). The gain of the antenna at 28GHz is 6.87dBi and 4.17dBi at 38GHz. The size of the proposed antenna is 7.23mm x 7.23mm. The introduction of Defected Ground Structure also improved the antenna performance. Furthermore, different parameters of the proposed antenna are varied, studied and discussed in detail to observe its effects on the antenna performance.

The aim of this study was to elucidate the effects of meropenem on a blaKPC-2-harbouring multidrug-resistant clinical strain of Klebsiella pneumoniae through a proteomics approach in order to attain a deeper understanding of bacterial resistance strategies. Analysis was performed by two-dimensional gel electrophoresis of whole-cell extracts of bacteria exposed to a sublethal concentration of meropenem compared with the untreated control. Differentially expressed proteins were identified by matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionisation time-of-flight (MALDI-TOF). Based on Quantity One(®) software and MALDI-TOF analysis, 16 overexpressed proteins were identified in meropenem-treated bacteria. These proteins were primarily enzymes involved in defence against oxidative stress as well as glycolytic enzymes. LysM domain/BON superfamily protein was found overexpressed by >12-fold. STRING-10 was used to dete...

Energy Efficiency has been categorized as one of the major challenges for Body Area Networks (BAN... more Energy Efficiency has been categorized as one of the major challenges for Body Area Networks (BAN) due to the limited power supply and expected long life of nodes and networks. This work proposes to reduce the energy consumption of BAN through monitoring and eliminating the spatial correlated contention in the BAN nodes. The issues of spatial correlation contention have been studied for traditional WSN's, but not in the BAN's. Since there could be cases in the BAN where multiple nodes make attempt to transmit the same data, the contention may take place resulting in the collisions and retransmissions. Avoiding this contention shall help prolonging the node and network lifetime. Two approaches have been proposed to solve the issue of correlation contention: only master transmitting the unique data and all the sensor nodes transmitting the unique data when compared with that of the neighbors. Simulations have been performed to observe the difference in energy consumption for both the proposed cases. It was found that the energy consumption for BAN comes out to be better when all the sensor nodes monitor the neighbor traffic and send the unique data only avoiding the redundant transmissions; hence the contention and collision reduces. The proposed approach can be integrated with any established MAC protocol for BAN in order to optimize the energy performance.

However these inhibitors are unable to inhibit carbapenemase KPC-2 effectively. They being β-lactam derivatives behave as substrates for this enzyme instead of inactivating it. We have initiated our study to check the in vitro inhibition activity of the two novel screened inhibitors (ZINC01807204 and ZINC02318494) in combination with carbapenems against KPC-2 expressing bacterial strain and their effect on purified enzyme KPC-2. The MIC values of meropenem and ertapenem showed maximum reduction (8 folds) in combination with screened compounds (ZINC01807204 and ZINC02318494). CLSM images also depicted their strong antibacterial activity in comparison to conventional β-lactamase inhibitors. Moreover no toxic effect has been shown on HeLa cell line. Though the IC...

Evaluation was made for changes in chemical characteristics of the fruit during three storage intervals packaged in seven different packaging materials. pH, TSS (0brix), acidity percentage and moisture percentage were determined at five days interval after storage for three intervals. pH was non-significantly affected during storage intervals, while TSS was recorded to be increased. Acidity percentage was first increased and then decreased during storage. Fruits packaged in rice paper showed considerable decrease in pH, TSS (0brix) and acidity percentage while an increase was observed for moisture content. However, the effect of other packaging

In addition, strains harboring KPC-type β-lactamases are often identified as resistant to standard β-lactamase inhibitors. Thus, KPC-2 carbapenems present a significant clinical challenge, as the mechanistic bases for KPC-2-associated phenotypes remain mysterious. Inhibiting the function of these resistance enzymes could control the hydrolysis of antibiotics. In the present study, we have reported two novel (non-β-lactatam) compounds that inhibit the activity of the KPC-2 enzyme. These compounds were identified by structure-based virtual screening using computational docking programs and molecular dynamics simulations with the solved crystal structure. Two compounds (ZINC01807204 and ZINC02318494) were selected on the basis of fitness scores from docking program and 5 ns molecular dynamics simulations. These commercially available compounds have been procured and their biological activity was experimentally evaluated on the E. coli strain carrying recombinant KPC-2. These new compounds in combination with ceftazidime and cefoxitin exhibited the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) values of 2 and 8 μg/ml respectively, which were found to be lower as compared to known β-lactamase inhibitors. Moreover, these compounds were also found to have comparable MICs values being 64 μg/ml in combination with ceftriaxone. This study explored novel inhibitors against KPC-2, a class A β-lactamase, which may be putative drug candidates against KPC-2 producing bacterial infection.
