Twenty four female Wistar rats were randomly divided into 3 groups (n=8): Group I, sham; Group II, 60 min I/R; Group III, 60 min I/R plus tadalafil. Tadalafil was administered via an orogastric tube (10 mg/kg) 24 h prior to the procedure. After ischemia of the left kidney and 1 h of reperfusion, blood samples were obtained, and the kidney was removed. Statistically significant histopathologic changes were exist between groups, with the most severe injury was determined in group II in comparison to the others (X(2)=21,803, P=0.000). Also mean serum IMA levels were higher in group II, but not statistically significant (19.83±7.81 U/ml, 22.26±7.14 U/ml and 19.82±7.77 U/ml, P=0.613). In addition, NO values were lower in I/R groups (P=0.049). There were no differences among the groups in terms of MDA. IMA may be u...

A total of 90 patients were evaluated for potential OSAS. They were given an International Index of Erectile Function questionnaire (IIEF) and Beck Depression Inventory. Sixty-two patients with the diagnosis of OSAS were regarded as study group. Twenty-eight patients in whom the OSAS was excluded, were regarded as the control group. Biochemical and hormonal laboratory evaluation were performed. Then all patients underwent a full-night in laboratory polysomnography examination. The degree of OSAS were evaluated by an expert from chest diseases department. When compared to the control group, a decrease in IIEF-5 scores was found in patients with OSAS. However, this decrease was no...

We reviewed patients with urinary stone disease who underwent stone sur- gery. Among cases with crystallographically analyzed stones; 60 patients with pure CaP renal or ureteral stones (greater than 1 cm) were selected. Two endourologists and a uroradiologist familiar with the radiographic patterns of different types of pure stones were invited separately, to evaluate pretreatment KUB. Four different radiographic patterns were identified mainly with the assistance of previous studies. Smooth edged, homogenous stones with denser opacity were in- cluded in Group 1. Stones with irregular edges and stippled border were included in Group 2. Relatively uniform stones with radial striations and moderate density were decided to form Group 3. Calculi with the least radiodensity and loosely aggregated with a lacy structure were included in Group 4. Overall, 68.9% of CaP calculi were included in Groups 1 and 2 by all participants. Best concordance between endourologists and the uroradiologist was demonstrated in the evaluation of smaller calculi (< 150 mm2). On KUB, CaP urinary calculi were mostly seen as dense relatively homogenous stones and sometimes with stippled borders. With an increase in pretreatment stone size, interobserver and interdisciplinary variabil- ities increased.
Purpose: Three intravesical treatment agents were compared in an interstitial cystitis rat model:... more Purpose: Three intravesical treatment agents were compared in an interstitial cystitis rat model: chondroitin sulfate, hyaluronic acid, and combined hyaluronic acid-chondroitin sulfate. Methods: Thirty-five female rats were divided into 5 groups: control (group I), isotonic (group II), chondroitin sulfate (group III), hyaluronic acid (group IV), and hyaluronic acid-chondroitin sulfate (group V). Chemical cystitis was induced in all experimental groups by intravesical instillation of 1 mL of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) for 15 minutes via the transurethral route. The treatment was administered every other day for 3 sessions 2 days after inducing chemical cystitis. Groups II, III, IV, and V received 1 mL of 0.9% NaCl, 1 mL of 0.2% sodium chondroitin sulfate, 1 mL of low-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid, and 1 mL of 2% sodium chondroitin sulfate+1.6% sodium hyaluronic acid, respectively. On day 7, the animals were sacrificed and the bladders were removed for histopathological and immunohist...
