The PL peak energy of the nominally undoped sample exhibits an S-shaped dependence on temperature for T < 50 K. This is attributed to recombination of bound excitons localized on traps. The energy of the PL circular-polarization maximum coincides with the energy of the free-exciton related reflectance feature at all temperatures. In heavily p-type samples the S-shaped temperature-dependence of the PL energy disappears, and the PL peak and circular polarization maximum coincide with the reflectance feature at all temperatures, indicating that the PL is free-exciton-like.

The core, shadowed and the exclusion regions, generated via shadowed c-means (SCM), quantize the ambiguity into three zones. This leads to faster convergence and reduced computational complexity. It is observed that SCM generates the best prototypes even in the presence of noise, thereby producing the best approximation of a structure in the unsupervised mode. A comparison with rough-fuzzy ...

For kinetic data at different pH levels, the concentration of the chlorinated component was measured at regular intervals using reversed-phase liquid chromatography. It was found that the biocides are stable in acidic media. However, the active component undergoes degradation in alkaline solutions, and the rate of degradation is faster with an increase in pH. The first-order rate constant and half-life values for the degradation of the active component in the pH range of 8.5 to 10 were determined. The typical half-life values were found to be 47, 23, 3.3 and 2 days in media of pH 8.5, 9.0, 9.6 and 10, respectively. A high stability in acidic medium, and a linear relationship between hydroxyl ion concentration and first-order rate constant in the alkaline range, suggest that chemical degradation of Kathon biocides results from hydrolysis of the chlorinated isothiazolone.

The results of the analysis were found to be consistent and reproducible, in agreement with those obtained from microscopic examination and from the elution profiles of latex particle standards. The results were also in agreement with particle size distributions obtained by laser light scattering. The validity of the size-dependent but density-independent separation by flow/hyperlayer FFF was demonstrated by the comparison of elution profiles for ground coal, ground limestone, glass beads, and polystyrene latex samples, which differ substantially in density. These results show that flow/hyperlayer FFF is a promising tool for the size analysis of ground minerals and similar particulate materials, perhaps even in a process control environment.

Using a generalised dispersion model, which is valid for all time after injection of the solute, expressions have been developed for the time-dependent longitudinal dispersion coefficient as well as of the area-mean concentration. It is observed that the dispersion coefficient markedly decreases as the fluid parameterG increases, which is attributable to the gradual flattening of the velocity profile. Consequently the concentration distribution becomes steeper at largerG. It is also established that forG<1, the extent of dispersion is practically same as in the case of Newtonian flow. The particle size and surface morphology were analysed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), High Resolution Transmission Electron Microscopy (HRTEM) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). Optical absorption spectrum showed strong blue shift, which is an indication of strong quantum confinement. Photoluminescence spectrum shows the blue luminescence peaks, which can be attributed to the recombination of the defect states.

The elution-based separation of RBCs by this method is based mainly on the size and shape of the cell particles. The typical separation time for RBCs is less than 3 mm. Size distributions can be derived from the fractograms of cell samples using a calibration plot based on retention data for uniform polystyrene beads. The method is shown to be effective both to separate and to characterize cell populations, including those with cells of abnormal shape and size. In order to investigate differences in cell morphology, shape and size changes induced by 500,000 Da Dextran were monitored. The changes in the Fl/HyFFF elution profiles indicate that the RBCs decrease in size but become partially aggregated in the presence of the dextran. These changes were found to depend on polymer concentration an...
