A country-by-country listing of road design standards and similar documents. The document is a work in progress, and all versions are beta version. This version 6.1, "Ghaha edition", was prepared in August 2016 and contains notes on 79 countries, 7 multi-country standards and 3 special topics. Total 128 pages, file size about 1.2 MB. Total views on Academia for previous version were 795.

The background to this paper is that I used to think that the geometric design of roads was prett... more The background to this paper is that I used to think that the geometric design of roads was pretty much straight-forward. With individual design parameters such as minimum radius there would probably beone established, well-founded formula or procedure, and this formula would be used in most countries. This in turn would mean that most countries would havesimilar values for minimum horizontal radius. What I believe now is that the conventional formula for horizontal radius is not the only one around, that it is not necessarily correct, and that even if the conventional formula is correct it is not necessarily properly applied. This revision January 2016 - layout modified, added notes on speed.
