The authors show that even though crosstalk can be reduced by additional grounded PCB tracks, the grounded traces behave like resonators and produce unwanted ringing. The ringing frequency is determined by the electrical length of grounded segments. The amplitude of ringing can be reduced by applying band-limited signals to the network

The core is the unified frame structure concept which supports an integrated 5G air interface, capable of dealing both with broadband data services and small packet services within the same band. It is essential for this concept to introduce waveforms which are more robust than OFDM, e.g., with respect to time-frequency misalignment. Encouraging candidate waveform technologies are presented and discussed with respective results. This goes along with the corresponding multiple access technologies using multi-layered signals and advanced multi-user receivers. In addition we introduce new (compressive) random access strategies to enable “one shot transmission” with greatly reduced control signaling particularly for sporadic traffic by orders of magnitude. Finally, we comment on the recent results on the 5GNOW networking interface. The intermed...

The paper deals with the introduction of a prototype platform for software defined radio solutions, which supports the development of the waveforms and applications for reconfigurable radio components with adaptive and reactive modulation formats. High-speed, high-bandwidth converter family is shown with some example applications to demonstrate the capability of the components.

The transport mechanisms have been tailored to maximize single cell performance by enforcing strict synchronism and orthogonality within a single cell and within a single contiguous frequency band. Various emerging trends reveal major shortcomings of those design criteria: (1) The fraction of machine-type-communications (MTC) is growing fast. Transmissions of this kind are suffering from the bulky procedures necessary to ensure strict synchronism. (2) Collaborative schemes have been introduced to boost capacity and coverage (CoMP), and wireless networks are becoming more and more heterogeneous following the non-uniform distribution of users. Tremendous efforts must be spent to collect the gains and to manage such systems under the premise of strict synchronism and orthogonality. (3) The advent of the Digital Agenda and the introduction of carrier aggregation are forcing the transmission syste...

Currently used frequency agile signals using frequency hopping and burst transmission technique rise eminent requirements for scanning and search receivers. The fast scanning speed can be achieved with parallel signal processing based the spectrum estimation of a wide bandwidth of incoming signal. One of the technology, which is available for that purpose is a traditional FFT, but the key element of the FFT based receivers is still remain the analog to digital converter (ADC) which is used. Currently lot of high-speed, high-dynamic range ADC chips are on the market developed for the digitized mobile radio market based on Software Defined Radio (SDR) technology. In the paper we would like to introduce our currently developed digital receiver platform for fast-scanning application which is able to process up to 10MHz of instantaneous input bandwidth with down to 10 KHz resolution within ...

Using high-speed buses in data-acquisition systems is very much widespread. The bus topology and performance is one of the key factor in the overallperformance of the whole system. The limitation of the speed which can be achieved on a backplane-like bus is determined by the signal-integritybehavior of the bus and the driver and receiver of the daughter cards. This paper deals with the evaluation of one of the latest VME-like backplanes.Measurement results are presented for the impedance profile, frequency-domain response, skew, eye-diagram and BER of the transactions.

This paper extends simulation and measurement results to stripline configurations, and shows that in spite of its homegenious medium, stripline configurations with more than two coupled traces will exhibit inherent far-end crosstalk. It is also shown that similarly to crosstalk reduction in microstrips, the grounded traces behave like resonators and may produce unwanted ringings on the waveforms. Both time-domain and frequency-domain responses are addressed.

It is shown that the near-end time-domain crosstalk waveform has a peak around the trailing edge, and the region of traces over which crosstalk must be considered extends over several adjacent traces.
