La breve rassegna presenta la leggenda di Aristotele e Fillide, diffusa nell'Occidente mediev... more La breve rassegna presenta la leggenda di Aristotele e Fillide, diffusa nell'Occidente medievale a partire dal XIII secolo, nei Sermones dei predicatori, nella letteratura cortese e nell'iconografia, riportando le tesi principali che gli studiosi hanno elaborato a riguardo e indaga sulle ragioni che hanno condotto a scegliere la figura di Aristotele per la beffarda raffigurazione. Il rovesciamento parodico che induce il filosofo a camminare a quattro zampe, cavalcato da Fillide, diventa - nel corso del secolo - rovesciamento dell'ammonimento misogino.
La critica del linguaggio di Fritz Mauthner (1849-1923), scrittore ebreo-boemo di lingua tedesca,... more La critica del linguaggio di Fritz Mauthner (1849-1923), scrittore ebreo-boemo di lingua tedesca, intellettuale eccentrico della Berlino tra la fine dell’Ottocento e l’inizio del Novecento, si basa sull’assunto che la parola in quanto tale e metafora, continua trasposizione di termini definiti su impressioni indefinite, chiusa nel cerchio dell’immagine che puo soltanto rimandare a un’altra immagine. L’approdo scettico, non semplice esito psicologico della scrittura giornalistica che svela nella parodia la superstizione della parola, trova conferma nel confronto con diverse tradizioni di pensiero. Questo lavoro ricostruisce i fili del continuo confronto critico di Mauthner con gli autori che hanno teorizzato il carattere metaforico del linguaggio. Nella tesi dell’autore confluiscono infatti il racconto delle origini di Vico, la critica empiristica dell’astrazione, la metacritica della ragione di Herder e Hamann, la dinamicizzazione dell’apriori kantiano di von Humboldt e Steinthal, le ricerche sul mutamento semantico di Hermann Paul, la concezione funzionalistica dell’io e della cosa e la teoria del concetto come sistema di operazioni di Ernst Mach e la filosofia della finzione di Vaihinger. La lettura della teoria della metafora di Aristotele, attraverso Bruchmann e Biese e parallela a quella di Gerber e Nietzsche, approfondisce la metafora per analogia e la metafora eidetica, mentre la trattazione della metafora verbale (secondo la classificazione di Morpurgo-Tagliabue) rimanda piuttosto a Jean Paul Richter e a Theodor Vischer. Quest’ultima diventa il perno della tesi di Mauthner che il mutamento semantico si basa essenzialmente sul Witz, sul motto di spirito, sull’arguzia che scorge le somiglianze lontane. La critica del linguaggio si esprime allora nell’umorismo del filosofo che ride di tutto cio che e sacro nella vita di tutti i giorni, ma sa di appartenere a questa quotidianita senza eroi. Lo stile espressionistico della scrittura riflette nella circolarita di un procedere che non afferra mai l’oggetto in questione l’impianto asistematico e l’esito relativistico. Non stupisce allora la fortuna di Mauthner tra i letterati - Joyce e Borges, per fare due nomi - piuttosto che tra i filosofi, se si fa eccezione per Wittgenstein che, nonostante la citazione del Tractatus, finisce per fare una critica del linguaggio proprio nel senso di Mauthner . In appendice si trova la traduzione di alcuni testi di Mauthner attinenti ai temi analizzati.

Lichtenberg's criticisms culminate in the Fragment von Schwänzen (1777), in which the silhouettes of the tails of animals and the "tails" of men become a parody and satire of Lavater's method. Silhouettes Non desidero altro che confrontare volto con volto, silhouettes con silhouettes! Johann Caspar Lavater Nella seconda metà del Settecento le silhouettes erano di moda. Si trattava di ritratti dipinti in nero su fondo bianco oppure di ritagli di carta nera incollata su un foglio bianco che riproducevano il profilo di una persona. Veri e propri intagliatori di silhouettes non manca-vano mai nei salotti raffinati, ma erano presenti anche nelle fiere e nei balli pubblici popolari; fungevano da fotografi prima della nascita della fotografia e molti dei loro lavori raggiunsero notevole valore artistico e furono, con il tempo, oggetto di collezionismo. 1 Esisteva anche una sorta di macchinario che permetteva la loro semplice realizzazione proiettando l'ombra del profilo della persona ritratta su uno schermo bianco, il cui prototipo è il Physionotrace, costruito negli anni 1783-1784 da Gilles Louis Chrétien, violoncellista alla corte di Versailles. 2 L'origine del termine 'silhouette' risale però a qualche anno prima, al nome del ministro di Luigi XV, Étienne de Silhouette, austero controllore delle finanze, sostenitore di un regime fiscale rigido nei confronti dei ceti privilegiati e più ricchi e per questo accusato di voler spogliare i francesi dei loro averi, presto licenziato dal re e cancellato dalla storia di Francia. La moda del tempo, che prevedeva giacche strette, disegnate con linee pulite e indossate su pantaloni senza tasche, venne chiamata 'à la Silhouette': nessuno poteva infilare denaro nelle tasche, perché-si diceva-il ministro delle finanze si era preso tutto il denaro. Poi l'espressione passò a designare le tabacchiere di legno grezzo, senza decorazioni né spec-chi e, infine, i ritratti neri dei profili. Per estensione-scrive lo scrittore Thierry Maugenest-il termine passò a designare tutto ciò che è fatto in economia, striminzito, effimero e appros-simativo. 3 Per noi però sopravvive solo il significato dell'arte nera, che appunto è arte antica, all'origine della pittura stessa nel mito della figlia del vasaio Butade Sicionio che aveva disegnato, per conservarne memoria, il contorno dell'ombra dell'amato, proiettata da una lucerna sulla pa-rete; un'arte riproposta anche nelle prime sagome nere che decoravano i vasi greci.
