The load regime applied on the fixation was directly measured and recorded during five hours of daily living using a commercial transducer connected to a data logger. This study showed that the recording can be split into four activities including directional locomotion, confined ambulation, stationary loading and inactivity representing 51 %, 25 %, 14 % and 10 % of total impulse, respectively. Furthermore, this study demonstrated that in the case presented only 50 % of the load regime during periods of activities could have been estimated using conventional techniques. This technique has the potential to be largely used by clinicians and engineers in the fram...

This antenna has been fabricated using a new advanced ferromagnetic laminate composite material whose high impedance and anisotropic properties enable an antenna that radiates via magnetic currents. The antenna, less than 0.5 m in diameter and less than 2 cm thick, was fabricated and tested. Including the imperfections of the feed network and a simple matching scheme, the antenna operates from 200 to 500 MHz with an input match of better than 10 dB, CP dipole realized gain as high as 2 dBi, and monopole mode vertically polarized gain as high as 1 dBi.

The sensitivity of the empirical relationship proposed by Archie b etween bulk soil resistivity, pore fluid resistivity, porosity and degree of saturation is reviewed. Typical qualitative applications of RCPTU data are reviewed and some recent approaches to more quantitative data analysis are presented.

Near the village of Guadalupita, these rocks display a smooth but abrupt south-to-north change from subhorizontal to subvertical dominant foliation (S 2) over a distance of∼ 2 km. This change in dominant fabric orientation coincides with a regional ...

The antenna is lightweight, rugged, and can be manufactured at a reasonable cost.

Both a U.S. standard penetration test split spoon and a larger-diameter drive sampler were used, and dynamic cone penetrometers of two sizes were also driven into the gravels near the mouth of the Resurrection River that had exhibited settlement and lateral spreading as a result of earthquake shaking. Two safety hammers were used [nominally 623 N (140 lb) and 1334 N (300 lb)], and the energy delivered with various hammer and penetrometer combinations was measured throughout all tests. Limited measurements of hammer velocity were also made by a radar system developed for that purpose to allow for kinetic energy determination. Soils recovered in the split spoon samplers were sent to the U.S. Army Engineer Waterways Experiment Station Soils Research Facility in Vicksburg, Mississippi, where th...

Multidisciplinary care has been shown as the most effective option for chronic disease. The aim of the Team-link study was to assess the effectiveness of an intervention to improve teamwork among general practitioners (GPs), practice staff and allied health professionals (AHPs). This paper describes changes to teamwork using qualitative data collected in the study. Design. Qualitative data about changes in internal and external professional collaboration were collected from facilitators' observations, GPs' reports and responses to a survey of AHPs assessing multidisciplinary teamwork. Setting. Multidisciplinary teams within general practices and external collaborations with AHPs including dietitians, diabetic educators, exercise physiologists, podiatrists, psychologists and physiotherapists. Participants. GPs, practice nurses, practice staff, AHPs. Intervention. A 6-month intervention consisting of an educational workshop and structured facilitation using specially designed materials, backed up by informal telephone support, was delivered to 26 practices. Main Outcome Measure. Data were analysed thematically using an approach based on identifying actors and associated collaborative actions. Results. New and enhanced communication pathways were observed between GPs, practice staff, patients and AHPs following the intervention. The enhanced information sharing expedited communication and improved interprofessional collaboration within general practices and with AHPs. There was evidence of increased patient participation and empowerment in the care process and improved collaboration by practice staff and allied health providers. Conclusion. The Team-link intervention improved professional collaboration among GPs, practice staff, AHPs and patients, increasing understanding and trust and enhancing multidisciplinary teamwork for chronic disease care in primary care settings.

Methods: A review of organizational theory and a qualitative study of 9 practices was used to design an intervention which was applied in four Divisions of General Practice and 26 urban practices. Clinical record review and qualitative interviews with participants were used to determine the key lessons from its implementation. Results: Facilitating teamwork across organizational boundaries was very challenging. The quality of the relationship between professionals was of key importance. This was enabled by joint education and direct communication between providers. Practice nurses were key links between general practices and allied and community health services. Conclusions: Current arrangements for Team Care planning provide increased opportunities for access to allied health. However the current paper based system is insufficient to build relationships or effectively share roles as part of a patient care team. Facilitation is feasible but constrained by barriers to communication and trust.
