Lot of work has been done on image compression and still a lot of scope is wide open. This work evaluates the performance of image compression algorithm based on wavelet transform and Differential Pulse Code Modulation (DPCM). In the first step wavelet transform is used and in the second step the image is processed through the DPCM. The simulation results show a improvement in the performance compared to the wavelet transform technique. The comparison was also made by choosing various combinations of band and measuring the compression ratio and PSNR.

Adaptive Noise Cancellation is an alternative technique of estimating signals corrupted by additive noise or interference. It needs two inputs - a primary input containing the corrupted signal and a reference input containing noise correlated in some unknown way with the primary noise. The reference input is adaptively filtered and subtracted from the primary input to obtain the signal estimate. Adaptive filtering before subtraction allows the treatment of inputs that are deterministic, stationary or time-variable. Noise cancellation is a common occurrence in todays telecommunication systems. Noise is unwanted signal that is disturbing especially in communication system. The main purpose of this paper is to eliminate noise that exists in input signal, which makes it difficult to understand. The signal interference caused by noise is distracting to both users and causes a reduct...

Adaptive noise canceller is one of the most interesting applications for adaptive filters, especially for the Least Mean Square (LMS) algorithm, due to its strength and calculus simplicity. Noise problems in signals have gained huge attention due to the need of noise-free output signal in numerous communication systems. The adaptive noise cancellation principle is used to remove an unwanted noise from corrupted signal by subtracting it from the corrupted signal. This paper presents an idea behind the hardware designing of ADC and simulation of ADC controller code used for FPGA Implementation of LMS Algorithm for Audio Applications. Since Xilinx Spartan3 FPGA doesn't have a facility of providing audio input directly designing of ADC is very important.

A video signal is the term used to describe any sequence of time varying images. This paper presents the architectures for Video Processing algorithm using softcore processor. This hardware/software co-design platform has been implemented on a Xilinx Virtex-5 FPGA (XUPV5-LX110T). Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) offers various resources which can be programmed for building up an efficient embedded system. The system consists of Microblaze and some IP core provided by Xilinx. Soft-core processors are complete microprocessors described in a hardware description language (HDL) such as VHDL, Verilog, etc. Advantages of Softcore Processors are more flexible, Platform independent, high level of abstraction, etc. The aim of this paper is to perform video compressing using discrete wavelet transform (DWT). The DWT was based on time-scale representation, which provides efficient multi-resolution. Video processing applications...

However, wireless channels involve some disadvantages, like multipath fading, which make them hard to cope with. A modulation that efficiently deals with selective fading channels is an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM), which consists on N orthogonal subcarriers generated and modulated when you look at the frequency domain. The orthogonal subcarriers allows, the use of the Fourier transform without introducing interference that is inter carrier interference. The advancements in digital signal processing and extremely large scale integrated circuits allow efficient and cost-effective utilization of the fast Fourier transform operations making OFDM an appealing solution for wireless channels. In OFDM system peak to average power ratio (PAPR) is a big risk which can be avoided using various techniques. This paper deals with performance analysis of multicarrier OFDM using combination of discrete cosine transform, partial transmit sequence and selective mapping. A video signal has been given as an input and MATLAB simulations were carried out. BER has been immensely improved and PAPR is reduced to 4 dB which is appreciable performance for multimedia devices.

The performance of OFDM is degraded by peak-to-averagepower ratio (PAPR). High PAPR requires high power amplifiers (HPAs). The nonlinearity of the HPA exhibits amplitude and section distortions, that cause loss of orthogonality among the subcarriers, and hence, intercarrier interference (ICI) is introduced inside the transmitted signal. Not only that, high PAPR put together lands up in in-band distortion and out-of-band radiation. Rather than using HPA’s, the only way to improve performance of OFDM system is to reduce PAPR. The PAPR reduction of OFDM system gives fair reduction in PAPR under partial transmits sequence (PTS) and DCT-SLM techniques. Here in this paper we proposed a combination of PTS and DCT-SLM and an algorithm to cut back the PAPR. This hybrid combined technique reduces PAPR effectively and minimizes the complexity of PTS technique.

Videos and movies are made up of a temporal sequence of frames and are projected at a proper rate (24 fps for movie and 30 fps for TV) to create the illusion of motion. This means that there exists a high correlation between adjacent temporal frames so that when projected at a proper rate, smooth motion is seen. In different research areas, there is a need for recording events in high frame rates. Due to the high frame rate video constraints, using complex methods are not suitable for videos and will increase the cost of the system and the required storage is also large. Either we have to store the data in database or to transfer video over some communication medium, video size always effect the efficiency. Because of this video compression is required to save the storage space. There are different lossless, lossy and wavelet methods for compressing video sequences. This paper presents the architectures for 2D discrete wavelet transform (DWT) and inverse DWT (IDWT). The experimental results demonstrate good compression ratios, mean square error and peak signal to noise ratio.
