Researchers across the globe have been working decades together meticulously improvising the performance of engine in terms of efficiency. The durability of the engine components mainly depends on the thermal stress it undergoes over the period of operation. Air cooling of engine is the simplest and most desirous technique that has been adopted for ages. In this regard fins or extended surfaces are employed for effective cooling of the cylinder while in operation. The conductive and convective heat transfer rate from the cylinder to the fins and in turn from the fins to surrounding ambience determines the effective performance of the engine. In this paper an attempt is made to review and summarize the various researches that were conducted on the Fins in terms of profile geometry, number of fins, size, thickness factor, material used etc., and to bring about a long term solution with the modern technologies like nano coatings and nano materials.

In this method, friction heat is generated. Also, material heat is generated and due to this, tool was penetrated without formation of chip and hence this method is classified as a chip less hole making method. One of the issues faced in friction drilling process is excessive wear of tool. To address this issue in the context of copper plate, two different materials of H13 steel tool and HSS tool with two combinations (straight and conical profile) were investigated and compared. For this process, CNC 3 axis machine was used for drilling hole on a 3[Formula: see text]mm thick copper plate. This study validated that HSS straight profile tool displayed lesser wear of 0.093[Formula: see text][Formula: see text]m at 50[Formula: see text]mm/rev feed rate and 3000[Formula: see text]rpm spindle speed.
In this study, a Mg3Zn alloy and a Mg3Zn1HA nanocomposite were fabricated through disintegrated m... more In this study, a Mg3Zn alloy and a Mg3Zn1HA nanocomposite were fabricated through disintegrated melt deposition, followed by the hot extrusion process. The specimens were subjected to fiber laser surface modification in air and demineralized water (DM) medium to determine the influence of the laser treatment medium on the microstructure, microhardness, grain size, and surface topography. During the laser treatment, the samples under the water medium produced a lower surface roughness when compared with the air medium. The atomic force microscope (AFM) surface topography scan showed the presence of surface modifications caused by the presence of nanohydroxyapatite (nHA) in the matrix, resulting in a 367.4% and 632.4% increase in the surface roughness (Ra) in the Mg3Zn1HA nanocomposite when compared with the Mg3Zn alloy in water and air media, respectively.

Corten steel which is a type of weathering steel is a low alloy steel, well known for its property of corrosion resistance. These steels are widely used in the construction of bridges, towers and in several applications of architecture also. The present work provides a short analysis done by several investigators on the corrosion of corten steel. This review discusses the problems such as corrosion rates and the formation of rust layer at different exposed conditions. Finally, the effects of alloys and the long-term behavior of the corten steel has also been reported.

The water hyacinth is a plant which is considered as an unwanted wild growth which is detrimental to the water bodies. It affects the oxygen and nutrients content of the fresh and sewage water and also hampers the flow of the water, thus leading to stagnation and flooding. In this method the water hyacinth was harvested and used as a reinforcing fibre in its untreated condition [1]. Our nation having a long sea shore is blessed with coconut trees. All the parts of the coconut tree are being used for various purposes [2-4]. Based on literature 15% by weight of powdered coconut shell was used as particulate reinforcement in this study [5, 6]. Cast aluminium A356 is most widely used in automobiles, marine and aircraft structures. The metal... more Cast aluminium A356 is most widely used in automobiles, marine and aircraft structures. The metal matrix composite was prepared by varying the weight percentage of reinforced boron carbide particle with A356 alloy by stir casting technique. The corrosion behavior of the composite was studied by salt spray test and the corrosion rate was evaluated by calculating the weight loss in the material. It is observed that A356-B4C composite exhibited excellent corrosion when immersed in 5% NaCl solution. The SEM image of the composite also shows that the particle gets corroded surrounding the reinforced particle.

The metal forms a nitride form case of high hardness when the salt bath nitriding is carried out. The selection of Grade 2 Titanium and Grade 5 Ti6Al4V Titanium alloy, stands with the fact that CP Grade 2 Titanium is the most formable and corrosion resistant amongst the pure grades of Titanium and grade 5 alloy is biocompatible and also has excellent tribological properties. This research work attempts to solve the problem of galling by comparing the morphology of the nitride case produced in Commercially Pure Grade 2 Titanium and the nitride formations produced in the Titanium Ti6Al4V alloy through Salt bath nitriding for a time span of 24 hours. Salt Bath Nitriding imparts unique improvements in Roughness, Hardness and Wear resistance of the samples thereby widening the applications of the material.
