Based on this, the aim of this study was to evaluate the longevity of prosthetic rehabilitation treatment with implant-supported overdenture (IOD) and implant-supported fixed denture (IFD) in cleft lip and palate patients in a period of 22 years. The medical records of 72 patients were analyzed (29 males and 43 females), and the survival rate of the implants was evaluated. Moreover, the prostheses' time of use and the reason for the changing of these were also evaluated. Four-hundred-seventeen implants were installed, and 370 implants survive today. The mean survival time of the implants was 7.6 years. Regarding the 97 prostheses made, the time of average use was 3.28 for the IFDs and 3.92 for IODs. The reasons for the replacements of the prostheses were mainly: fracture of the acrylic base (29.6%) and loss of vertical dimension of occlusion (VDO) (18.5%) in the IFDs. Moreover, in IODs, these were accounted for the loss ...

Methods: Thirty-eight patients were examined and divided into 2 groups: group I: patients with chronic generalized periodontal disease previously diagnosed and not treated; group II: patients subjected to head and neck radiotherapy. All volunteers were subjected to halitosis measurements through a sulphide monitor, evaluation of tongue coating weight, stimulated and non-stimulated sialometry and BANA TM test. Results: The results were analyzed by analysis of the variance, Pearson's correlation coefficient and Student's t-test, showing that both groups presented halitosis. There was also a relationship between tongue coating presence and VSC levels in both groups and the irradiated patients showed lower salivary flow rates. Conclusions: Under the tested conditions, it may be concluded that halitosis can be considered as an adverse effect of radiotherapy, associated with low salivary flow and poor oral health, which seems to be the main contribution to bad breath, since patients with periodontal disease also showed halitosis.

Usually, it appears as a solitary mass arising in the mouth and originates from the anterior alveolar ridge. The objective of the present article is to report a case of congenital granular cell lesion in an 8-day-old female newborn. The patient presented four intraoral pedunculated lesions. Diagnosis, treatment, microscopic and immunohistochemical characteristics are also discussed.

Primary bone grafts in congenital cleft alveolus do not always provide sufficient bulk or height ... more Primary bone grafts in congenital cleft alveolus do not always provide sufficient bulk or height of bone for ideal placement of endosseous implants. Thus, maxillary sinus or nasal floor elevation and inlay bone grafts in previously grafted areas are not exceptions in the daily routine. This case report stresses the need of a detailed treatment plan and careful surgical management of nasal floor elevation with particulate autogenous bone graft to successfully provide the patient with osseointegrated prostheses.

Data from medical records and diagnoses of 41 patients were reviewed. Histological sections were subjected to immunostaining using primary antibodies for human MMP-2, MMP-9 and CD31 and streptavidin-biotin-immunoperoxidase system. Histomorphometric analyses quantified positivity for MMPs (20 fields per slide, 100 points grade, ×200) and for CD31 (microvessels <50 µm in the area of the highest vascularization, 5 fields per slide, 100 points grade, ×400). Statistical design was composed by non-parametric Mann-Whitney U test (investigating the association between numerical variables and immunostainings), chi-square frequency test (in contingency tab...
