At the beginning of the Neolithic period, the first permanent settlements were formed and new relations were developed between the communities and the landscape. The new Neolithic way of life must have affected indigenous foragers who interacted with early farmers that settled in the Northwestern Anatolia. It seems that from the middle of the 7th millennium onwards, a mixture of newcomers and existing local population resulted in a gradual transition from ‘Mesolithic’ to ‘Neolithic’ societies that led to the decline of the hunter-gatherer lifestyle that had been previously a characteristic factor of the region. The new way of life was followed by social changes in Neolithic societies.
