A retired professor of teacher education. My career started as a secondary school teacher and a high school principal in Kenya. Later I lived, studied and became a teacher educator in the United States. As an educator, I am fascinated how the experiences of growing in a former colony where our people were deprived and viewed as second class citizens in their own country differed and yet was similar to the black experience in the United States. The questions to be answered by future generations of intelligentsia are multiple especially when we view our world through the challenges of democracy. Is it democratic to view the other as lesser than? Is it possible to a achieve a multicultural society? Should the history of colonial rule and yes the history of slavery in USA and other places inform our future democratic ideals? Or is this type of democracy a pie in the skies? With the current attack on the critical race theory in the United States - the premier world’s democratic country - the above are the unavoidable and important questions for future scholars and politicians. At the back of my mind my faith in the Almighty God tells me anything is possible with Him.
