In particolare, Condillac giunge a rivedere i fondamenti del suo pensiero dopo aver conosciuto l'abate De L'Epée e il suo metodo rivoluzionario per istruire bambini sordomuti.

The first part shows that in the Essai’s sign classification the arbitrary sign functions as a cognitive more than a communicative component. The second part inquiries into the vicious circle, which Condillac understood, deriving from the related emergence between reflexion and arbitrary sign. Considering two Condillac’s letters written after the Essai’s publication, one to Gabriel Cramer the other to Maupertuis, I hypothesize that (1) the vicious circle concerns the cognitive aspect of the sign; (2) Condillac’s rethink on human language, especially on arbitrariness, is connected to the new depicted system of the soul’s operations in the Traité; (3) this new reflection turns toward a more gradual development of soul’s operations and of language as well. Even if in the Traité there are not references to the sign or to the linguistic condition, I demonstrate that the touch here functions in the same way as the arbitrary sign in the Essai, and that the gesture, derived from the touch, is represented as the first natural sign in the cognitive sense. It is so possible to find in the Traité the principal arguments of the Grammaire’s description of the natural origin of the human language, which influenced the debate on language in late Eighteenth century France.

Grammaire (1775).

I will show that the grounds of the economic essay are the same of Condillac’s philosophy of knowledge and language. I describe the analysis of the value and the analysis of the price to prove the psychological basis of the economic order. I will show that the need is the principal link with philosophical treatises and the importance of the deliberation. The re-construction of the analytical order allows to examine the link between the concept of value and the philosophical concept of “liaison des idées” and the link between the concepts of price and money and the linguistic theory of sign. I will show the importance and the ambiguity of the role of the value in the system of the economic ideas. In the discussion of the complicated relations between linguistic sign and the monetary sign, I will investigate the analytical function of the sign to prove how the analytical method can make the economics such as “a language well done” against the abuse of words.

the social representation of the job, but to explore if there remains a present-day image
of the job, and what are its historical and social conditions of existence. The problem is to
study the relation between social structure and the image of the job. First, following Foucault’s
studies on disciplinary society, the relation between disciplinary society and the image
of labour in the factory will be described. This is followed by an account of the problematic
passage from disciplinary society to what Deleuze called a “society of control”. Giving
particular consideration to Foucault’s theory of power/knowledge relations and Deleuze’s
semiotic reading of this theory, the new social organization of jobs, activities and times will
be investigated. Social structure is changing from disciplinary and striated space, such as the
space of the factory, to the smooth space of dispersion, like the space of the market. The image
of the job changes from the image of the workforce to the image of human capital. Finally,
rethinking Foucault’s lectures on biopolitics, the relation between the market and human
capital will be analyzed. My hypothesis is that it is not possible to have an image of the
job as human capital in the present: the concept of human capital coincides with the human
being and its capability, but there is no longer any specific space for the market, given that
the market permeates every space of life.
