Wie wird in und mit dokumentarischen Filmen an Holocaust und Nationalsozialismus erinnert? Und w... more Wie wird in und mit dokumentarischen Filmen an Holocaust und Nationalsozialismus erinnert? Und wie gehen solche Medienangebote mit der Herausforderung um, den Holocaust auf eine Art und Weise zu repräsentieren, die den damaligen Ereignissen und den Erfahrungen der Überlebenden gerecht wird? Diese Studie legt dar, dass die ersten Verfahren des Internationalen Gerichtshofs zu den Verbrechen der Nationalsozialisten, wie der erste Nürnberger Prozess gegen die Hauptkriegsverbrecher oder der Jerusalemer Prozess gegen Adolf Eichmann, einen Gedächtnisrahmen bildeten. Durch die Selektion von Quellen und die Rekonstruktion bzw. Vergegenwärtigung der Vergangenheit wurde ein übergeordnetes Archiv an Medienangeboten, Narrativen, Sichtweisen und Erinnerungspraktiken geschaffen, das bis heute als Modell dient, um den Holocaust überhaupt zeigen zu können. Besonders deutlich wird dies am Beispiel des Dokumentarfilms. In einer Gegenüberstellung der unmittelbaren Nachkriegszeit bis Anfang der 1960er-Jahre mit den ersten beiden Dekaden des neuen Jahrtausends wird deutlich, dass die gedächtnisrahmende Funktion von NS-Prozessen bis heute ihre Spuren hinterlassen und wesentlichen Einfluss auf die von Medien geprägte Erinnerungskultur genommen hat.

Der vorliegende Band rekonstruiert die bisher wenig beachtete Auseinandersetzung der bis 1961 ent... more Der vorliegende Band rekonstruiert die bisher wenig beachtete Auseinandersetzung der bis 1961 entstandenen westdeutschen dokumentarischen Filme mit der NS-Vergangenheit, dem Holocaust und dem Zweiten Weltkrieg. Aufbauend auf eine eingehende Archivarbeit werden auch Filme diskutiert, die in der Fachliteratur bislang nur selten oder gar nicht aufgegriffen wurden. Die in den Filmen zu erkennenden Diskurse knüpfen an bekannte Deutungen an. Sie überraschen durch eine Vielfalt an Formaten, Distributionswegen und Aufführungskontexten, etwa bei dokumentarischen Fernsehserien oder der politischen Bildungsarbeit, die auf einen differenzierteren Umgang mit der NS-Vergangenheit in der frühen Bundesrepublik hindeutet als bisher angenommen.

Dokumentarfilm und Gerichtsverhandlung teilen in der Auseinandersetzung mit der Shoah die Schwier... more Dokumentarfilm und Gerichtsverhandlung teilen in der Auseinandersetzung mit der Shoah die Schwierigkeit, eine Form oder Sprache für Ereignisse solchen Ausmaßes finden zu müssen, dass jeglicher Versuch einer angemessenen Beurteilung von vorneherein aussichtslos erscheinen mag. Dieser Aufsatz folgt der These, dass sich ein Zusammenhang zwischen der Etablierung dokumentarfilmischer Erinnerungspraktiken und einigen wichtigen NS-Prozessen erkennen lässt, wenn man den Blick auf die Frage richtet, wie der Nationalsozialismus vor Gericht verhandelt wurde. Dieser Zusammenhang gilt insbesondere für die Verwendung audiovisueller Dokumente und Zeugenschaft. Doch auch in weiteren dokumentarfilmischen Erinnerungspraktiken können sich Verfahrensweisen vor Gericht spiegeln. Dies wird am Beispiel des Films „Das Himmler Projekt“ diskutiert, der den Zuschauerinnen und Zuschauern die erste Posener Rede Heinrich Himmlers und somit eine Rede, die eine Täterperspektive enthält, auf experimentelle Art und Weise ‚vorhält’.

Jeżeli weźnie się pod uwagę, w jaki sposób narodowy socjalizm był traktowany w praktyce sądowniczej, łatwo będzie rozpoznać związek między rozwojem praktyk upamiętniania za pomocą dokumentów filmowych i niektórymi ważnymi procesami przeciwko narodowym socjalistom. Związek ten zasadza się przede wszystkim na wykorzystaniu dokumentów i świadectw audiowizualnych. Także i inne praktyki stosowane w filmach dokumentalnych odzwierciedlają procedury sądowe. Niniejszy tekst bada te zagadnienia w oparciu o film Das Himmler Projekt konfronujący widzów z pierwszą poznańską mową Heinricha Himmlera i – w ramach pewnego eksperymentu formalnego – ‚przedstawia‘ tym samym perspektywę sprawców.

Der Dokumentarfilm "Aghet – Ein Völkermord" (D 2010, Eric Friedler) thematisiert den zu Beginn de... more Der Dokumentarfilm "Aghet – Ein Völkermord" (D 2010, Eric Friedler) thematisiert den zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts stattgefundenen Genozid am armenischen Volk. Aufgrund des zeitlichen Abstands gibt es heute keine Überlebenden mehr, die von den Ereignissen berichten und so eine Erinnerung daran aufrecht erhalten könnten. Der am Beispiel des Holocaust viel diskutierte Übergang eines kommunikativen in ein kulturelles Gedächtnis (J. und A. Assmann) hat in diesem Fall bereits stattgefunden. Erschwerend für eine filmische Erinnerung kommt hinzu, dass nur wenig visuelles Archivmaterial erhalten ist.
Diese Problematik berücksichtigend, erfüllt "Aghet – Ein Völkermord" den Anspruch eines Dokumentarfilms, möglichst objektiv auf sein außerfilmisches Thema zu verweisen, auf ungewöhnliche Weise: In Schriftform überlieferte Berichte von Zeit- und Augenzeugen werden mittels Re-Enactments neu zur Sprache gebracht. Allerdings nicht durch eine Imitation der Ereignisse, wie im konventionellen Doku-Drama üblich. Stattdessen wird die Nachträglichkeit der Inszenierung mit Schauspielern anhand verschiedener reflexiver Verfahren deutlich gemacht. Die Folge ist ein Changieren zwischen Repräsentation und Abstraktion. Dies führt zu Anforderungen an den Zuschauer, die über eine gewöhnliche Filmerfahrung hinausgehen. Der Film konstituiert so einen neuen dokumentarischen Modus, der in diesem Aufsatz analysiert wird. Gleichzeitig nimmt er eine ungewöhnliche Position gegenüber der Frage nach einer angemessenen, medial-vermittelten Erinnerung ein. Diese wird im Vergleich zu etablierten filmischen Erinnerungspraktiken, wie dem Interview im Sinne der Oral History oder dem Einsatz von Archivbildern diskutiert und im kulturwissenschaftlichen Gedächtnisdiskurs situiert.

Weitere innovative Beispiele zeigen, dass es sich bei den Erinnerungen der Überlebenden nicht lediglich um eine Informationsquelle handelt, sondern dass ihr Zeugnis stets in Bezug zu den Leerstellen, Brüchen und dem, was jenseits der Sprache und der überlieferten Bilder liegt, gedacht werden muss. Die Erinnerungen der letzten Zeugen des Holocaust sind nicht zu ersetzen, ihre Stimme wird in Zukunft schmerzlich fehlen. Neuere Dokumentarfilme zeigen uns aber, dass der Einfluss des Holocaust auf das Leben heutiger und künftiger Generationen anhält und dass es auch weiterhin aller Anstrengungen wert ist, neue Blicke auf das Leben mit der Vergangenheit zu werfen und unseren Umgang mit den vorhandenen Spuren weiterzuentwickeln." Der Frankfurter Auschwitz Prozess (1963-1965) gilt als Auslöser einer öffentlichen Auseinanderse... more Der Frankfurter Auschwitz Prozess (1963-1965) gilt als Auslöser einer öffentlichen Auseinandersetzung mit den Verbrechen des Nationalsozialismus in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland. Trotz einer in den Jahren zuvor von der Adenauer-Regierung praktizierten "Vergangenheitspolitik" (N. Frei), die die vorher von den Alliierten betriebene juristische Ahndung von NS-Verbrechen nahezu zum Erliegen brachte, wurden auch in den 1950er Jahren Prozesse wegen nationalsozialistischer Gewaltverbrechen geführt.
Da es in West-Deutschland bis Ende 1963 noch möglich war, Film‐ und Fernsehaufnahmen während einer laufenden Gerichtsverhandlung anzufertigen, zeigen die beiden Dokumentarfilme "Der Prozess Huppenkothen" und "KZ-Schergen" exemplarisch, welche Tatkomplexe in Bezug auf den Nationalsozialismus in den 1950er Jahren in der Medienöffentlichkeit wahrgenommen und diskutiert wurden und ermöglichen einen direkten Einblick in die juristische 'Vergangenheitsbewältigung' der frühen BRD.
Beide Filme wurden zunächst als Dokumentarberichte in der ARD ausgestrahlt und anschließend in leicht veränderter Form im Rahmen der politischen Bildungsarbeit durch die Staatsbürgerlichen Bildungsstellen (Vorläufer der heutigen Landeszentralen für politische Bildung) eingesetzt.
Im Zentrum des Aufsatzes steht die Analyse des FIlms "Der Prozess Huppenkothen" im Spiegel der juristischen Debatte um die Frage, ob es möglich sein sollte, vor Gericht zu filmen und im Hinblick auf den nicht unproblematischen Einsatz des Films in der politischen Bildungsarbeit.

Mai 2022 im DRA Potsdam-Babelsberg widmet sich der Radioarbeit deutschsprachiger Autorinnen und Autoren aus dem östlichen Europa. Nach dem Ende des Zweiten Weltkrieges flohen viele von ihnen in die vier Besatzungszonen Deutschlands und wurden dort später im bzw. für den Rundfunk tätig. In ihrer literarischen und publizistischen Arbeit reflektierten sie die Erfahrungen von Krieg und Flucht, von Verlust der Heimat und vom Start in einer neuen Umgebung. Der Arbeit für die Rundfunksender kam dabei eine besondere Bedeutung zu, bildeten diese doch sehr schnell zentrale Orte der Literaturproduktion und der Literaturvermittlung. Das Thema ist – von einigen Ausnahmen abgesehen – bislang wenig erforscht.
Der gemeinsame Workshop des Bundesinstituts für Kultur und Geschichte der Deutschen im östlichen Europa, des Leibniz-Instituts für Medienforschung | Hans-Bredow-Institut, der Stiftung Deutsches Rundfunkarchiv, der Historischen Kommission der ARD und des Deutschen Kulturforum östliches Europa zielt darauf, Forschungen im Schnittfeld von Rundfunk- und Literaturgeschichte, von Programm- und Zeitgeschichte aktiv zu begleiten und den Dialog zwischen ›Wissenschaft‹ und ›Archiv‹ zu befördern.

Mit eine... more Eine Veranstaltung des Filmmuseums Potsdam und der Stiftung Deutsches Rundfunkarchiv.
Mit einem Konzert im Berliner Vox-Haus, in der Nähe des Potsdamer Platzes, startete am 29. Oktober 1923 ein regelmäßiges Rundfunkprogramm. Die Geburtsstunde des Radios in Deutschland. Während die ersten Sendungen nur von wenigen Personen mit den entsprechenden Radioempfängern gehört werden konnten, fand das neue Medium bald ein Millionenpublikum.
Mit einer Reihe von innovativen Radio-Sendungen und Hörspielen sowie korrespondierenden Filmen blicken die Stiftung Deutsches Rundfunkarchiv (DRA) und das Filmmuseum Potsdam auf die wechselvolle Geschichte des Radios in Deutschland zurück. Im Zentrum des Programms stehen Beiträge, die die vielfältigen Möglichkeiten des akustischen Erzählens erlebbar machen und die Bedeutung des Radios als Medium eigenständiger akustischer Ausdrucksweisen reflektieren. Zu hören sind außerdem Sendungen, die die Gelegenheit bieten, der wechselvollen Geschichte des Radios in Deutschland nachzuspüren, die – nach seiner Geburt in der Blütezeit der Weimarer Demokratie – auch von zwei Diktaturen nachhaltig geprägt wurde. Durch die einzigartige Kombination von Radio-Beiträgen und Filmen im historischen Kontext reflektiert das Programm die medialen, künstlerischen und politischen Repräsentationsstrategien von Radio und Film, deren Unterschiede und Gemeinsamkeiten.
Im Deutschen Rundfunkarchiv werden die Rundfunk-Bestände aus der Zeit der Weimarer Republik, des Nationalsozialismus und die Hörfunk- und Fernsehbestände des DDR-Rundfunks bewahrt und zugänglich gemacht. Die Sammlungen des Filmmuseums Potsdam mit dem Schwerpunkt zur Geschichte der Babelsberger Filmstudios haben 2023 ein neues Gebäude in der Medienstadt Babelsberg, in unmittelbarer Nachbarschaft des DRA bezogen. Mit der Veranstaltungsreihe würdigen die Institutionen gemeinsam 100 Jahre Radiogeschichte.

Mit dem Prozess gegen Adolf Eichmann rückte die Shoah in den Fokus der internationalen Öffentli... more Mit dem Prozess gegen Adolf Eichmann rückte die Shoah in den Fokus der internationalen Öffentlichkeit. Als Leiter des Referats für „Judenangelegenheiten“ war Eichmann während der NS-Zeit zuständig für die Organisation der Deportation der europäischen Jüdinnen und Juden und deshalb mitverantwortlich für die Ermordung von sechs Millionen jüdischen Kindern, Frauen und Männern. Nach Kriegsende floh Eichmann nach Argentinien. 1960 vom israelischen Geheimdienst entführt, wurde er nach Israel gebracht, vor Gericht gestellt und schließlich zum Tode verurteilt.
Hannah Arendts Reportage über den Prozess gilt als einer ihrer bekanntesten Texte. Eichmann in Jerusalem erschien zunächst im Magazin The New Yorker und wurde anschließend als Buch publiziert. Arendt beschrieb darin den Eindruck, den der Angeklagte auf sie gemacht hatte: Eichmann präsentierte sich vor Gericht als Befehlsempfänger ohne eigene Motive – ein Eindruck, der Arendt zu ihrer These von der „Banalität des Bösen“ führte. Ihre Überlegungen stießen auf massive Kritik und handelten ihr den Vorwurf ein, die Shoah und das Leiden der Opfer zu verharmlosen.
Neuere Auseinandersetzungen mit dem Prozess haben Eichmanns Auftreten vor Gericht als Inszenierung entlarvt. Hannah Arendts Überlegungen aber wirkten nachhaltig. Ebenso einflussreich war das Täter-Bild, das mittels des Prozesses von Eichmann entstand. Der Angeklagte mit der großen Brille, der im Gerichtssaal aus Sicherheitsgründen in einer kugelsicheren Glaskabine untergebracht war, wurde zur Symbolfigur des „Schreibtischtäters“.
In Israel gab es zwar 1961 noch kein Fernsehen, aber sehr wohl ein Bewusstsein für die Möglichkeiten des Mediums. Als internationales Fernsehereignis angelegt, wurde der gesamte Prozess unter Leitung des Regisseurs Leo Hurwitz von der amerikanischen Produktionsfirma Capital Cities Broadcasting aufgezeichnet. Auf dieser Grundlage konnte weltweit über den Prozess berichtet werden. So rückte das Ausmaß der an den europäischen Jüdinnen und Juden begangenen Verbrechen in die mediale Weltöffentlichkeit.
Überlebende wie Simon Srebrnik, die in Jerusalem ausführlich über ihre Erfahrungen in den Konzentrations- und Vernichtungslagern sprachen, trugen dazu bei, dem mit der Shoah verbundenen Leid Gesichter und Stimmen zu geben. Die Bedeutung des Prozesses liegt aus zeithistorischer Sicht daher auch in der „Entstehung des [Zeit-]Zeugen“ als „Träger der Geschichte“ (Annette Wieviorka).
Mit einem Fokus auf die Bundesrepublik, wo der Prozess das einsetzende Ende einer Phase der Verdrängung markierte, und auf Israel, wo viele der Überlebenden zuvor oft auf Unglauben gegenüber ihren Erfahrungen gestoßen waren, versammelt die in Zusammenarbeit mit Götz Lachwitz entstandene Retrospektive vor allem Filme und Fernsehsendungen, die die Bedeutung des Prozesses für den sich wandelnden Umgang mit der Shoah beleuchten. Die Filme vermitteln eine Stimmung, in der auch Hannah Arendt arbeitete und über Adolf Eichmann nachdachte.

Stattdessen wird die Nachträglichkeit der Inszenierung mit Schauspielern anhand verschiedener reflexiver Verfahren deutlich gemacht. Die Folge ist ein Changieren zwischen Repräsentation und Abstraktion. Dies führt zu Anforderungen an den Zuschauer, die über eine gewöhnliche Filmerfahrung hinausgehen. Der Film konstituiert so einen neuen dokumentarischen Modus, der in diesem Aufsatz analysiert wird. Gleichzeitig nimmt er eine ungewöhnliche Position gegenüber der Frage nach einer angemessenen, medial-vermittelten Erinnerung ein. Diese wird im Vergleich zu etablierten filmischen Erinnerungspraktiken, wie dem Interview im Sinne der Oral History oder dem Einsatz von Archivbildern diskutiert und im kulturwissenschaftlichen Gedächtnisdiskurs situiert.
Da es in West-Deutschland bis Ende 1963 noch möglich war, Film‐ und Fernsehaufnahmen während einer laufenden Gerichtsverhandlung anzufertigen, zeigen die beiden Dokumentarfilme "Der Prozess Huppenkothen" und "KZ-Schergen" exemplarisch, welche Tatkomplexe in Bezug auf den Nationalsozialismus in den 1950er Jahren in der Medienöffentlichkeit wahrgenommen und diskutiert wurden und ermöglichen einen direkten Einblick in die juristische 'Vergangenheitsbewältigung' der frühen BRD.
Beide Filme wurden zunächst als Dokumentarberichte in der ARD ausgestrahlt und anschließend in leicht veränderter Form im Rahmen der politischen Bildungsarbeit durch die Staatsbürgerlichen Bildungsstellen (Vorläufer der heutigen Landeszentralen für politische Bildung) eingesetzt.
Im Zentrum des Aufsatzes steht die Analyse des FIlms "Der Prozess Huppenkothen" im Spiegel der juristischen Debatte um die Frage, ob es möglich sein sollte, vor Gericht zu filmen und im Hinblick auf den nicht unproblematischen Einsatz des Films in der politischen Bildungsarbeit.

Mit einem Konzert im Berliner Vox-Haus, in der Nähe des Potsdamer Platzes, startete am 29. Oktober 1923 ein regelmäßiges Rundfunkprogramm. Die Geburtsstunde des Radios in Deutschland. Während die ersten Sendungen nur von wenigen Personen mit den entsprechenden Radioempfängern gehört werden konnten, fand das neue Medium bald ein Millionenpublikum.
Mit einer Reihe von innovativen Radio-Sendungen und Hörspielen sowie korrespondierenden Filmen blicken die Stiftung Deutsches Rundfunkarchiv (DRA) und das Filmmuseum Potsdam auf die wechselvolle Geschichte des Radios in Deutschland zurück. Im Zentrum des Programms stehen Beiträge, die die vielfältigen Möglichkeiten des akustischen Erzählens erlebbar machen und die Bedeutung des Radios als Medium eigenständiger akustischer Ausdrucksweisen reflektieren. Zu hören sind außerdem Sendungen, die die Gelegenheit bieten, der wechselvollen Geschichte des Radios in Deutschland nachzuspüren, die – nach seiner Geburt in der Blütezeit der Weimarer Demokratie – auch von zwei Diktaturen nachhaltig geprägt wurde. Durch die einzigartige Kombination von Radio-Beiträgen und Filmen im historischen Kontext reflektiert das Programm die medialen, künstlerischen und politischen Repräsentationsstrategien von Radio und Film, deren Unterschiede und Gemeinsamkeiten.
Im Deutschen Rundfunkarchiv werden die Rundfunk-Bestände aus der Zeit der Weimarer Republik, des Nationalsozialismus und die Hörfunk- und Fernsehbestände des DDR-Rundfunks bewahrt und zugänglich gemacht. Die Sammlungen des Filmmuseums Potsdam mit dem Schwerpunkt zur Geschichte der Babelsberger Filmstudios haben 2023 ein neues Gebäude in der Medienstadt Babelsberg, in unmittelbarer Nachbarschaft des DRA bezogen. Mit der Veranstaltungsreihe würdigen die Institutionen gemeinsam 100 Jahre Radiogeschichte.

Hannah Arendts Reportage über den Prozess gilt als einer ihrer bekanntesten Texte. Eichmann in Jerusalem erschien zunächst im Magazin The New Yorker und wurde anschließend als Buch publiziert. Arendt beschrieb darin den Eindruck, den der Angeklagte auf sie gemacht hatte: Eichmann präsentierte sich vor Gericht als Befehlsempfänger ohne eigene Motive – ein Eindruck, der Arendt zu ihrer These von der „Banalität des Bösen“ führte. Ihre Überlegungen stießen auf massive Kritik und handelten ihr den Vorwurf ein, die Shoah und das Leiden der Opfer zu verharmlosen.
Neuere Auseinandersetzungen mit dem Prozess haben Eichmanns Auftreten vor Gericht als Inszenierung entlarvt. Hannah Arendts Überlegungen aber wirkten nachhaltig. Ebenso einflussreich war das Täter-Bild, das mittels des Prozesses von Eichmann entstand. Der Angeklagte mit der großen Brille, der im Gerichtssaal aus Sicherheitsgründen in einer kugelsicheren Glaskabine untergebracht war, wurde zur Symbolfigur des „Schreibtischtäters“.
In Israel gab es zwar 1961 noch kein Fernsehen, aber sehr wohl ein Bewusstsein für die Möglichkeiten des Mediums. Als internationales Fernsehereignis angelegt, wurde der gesamte Prozess unter Leitung des Regisseurs Leo Hurwitz von der amerikanischen Produktionsfirma Capital Cities Broadcasting aufgezeichnet. Auf dieser Grundlage konnte weltweit über den Prozess berichtet werden. So rückte das Ausmaß der an den europäischen Jüdinnen und Juden begangenen Verbrechen in die mediale Weltöffentlichkeit.
Überlebende wie Simon Srebrnik, die in Jerusalem ausführlich über ihre Erfahrungen in den Konzentrations- und Vernichtungslagern sprachen, trugen dazu bei, dem mit der Shoah verbundenen Leid Gesichter und Stimmen zu geben. Die Bedeutung des Prozesses liegt aus zeithistorischer Sicht daher auch in der „Entstehung des [Zeit-]Zeugen“ als „Träger der Geschichte“ (Annette Wieviorka).
Mit einem Fokus auf die Bundesrepublik, wo der Prozess das einsetzende Ende einer Phase der Verdrängung markierte, und auf Israel, wo viele der Überlebenden zuvor oft auf Unglauben gegenüber ihren Erfahrungen gestoßen waren, versammelt die in Zusammenarbeit mit Götz Lachwitz entstandene Retrospektive vor allem Filme und Fernsehsendungen, die die Bedeutung des Prozesses für den sich wandelnden Umgang mit der Shoah beleuchten. Die Filme vermitteln eine Stimmung, in der auch Hannah Arendt arbeitete und über Adolf Eichmann nachdachte.

Film dokumentalny i rozprawa sądowa wykazują w obliczu Zagłady tę samą trudność polegającą na konieczności znalezienia swoistej formy czy języka zdolnego ująć wydarzenie tych rozmiarów, w związku z czym wszelkie próby stosownego osądu od samego początku mogą wydawać się bezzasadne. Jeżeli weźnie się pod uwagę, w jaki sposób narodowy socjalizm był traktowany w praktyce sądowniczej, łatwo będzie rozpoznać związek między rozwojem praktyk upamiętniania za pomocą dokumentów filmowych i niektórymi ważnymi procesami przeciwko narodowym socjalistom. Związek ten zasadza się przede wszystkim na wykorzystaniu dokumentów i świadectw audiowizualnych. Także i inne praktyki stosowane w filmach dokumentalnych odzwierciedlają procedury sądowe. Niniejszy tekst bada te zagadnienia w oparciu o film Das Himmler Projekt konfronujący widzów z pierwszą poznańską mową Heinricha Himmlera i – w ramach pewnego eksperymentu formalnego – ‚przedstawia‘ tym samym perspektywę sprawców.
Diese Problematik berücksichtigend, erfüllt "Aghet – Ein Völkermord" den Anspruch eines Dokumentarfilms, möglichst objektiv auf sein außerfilmisches Thema zu verweisen, auf ungewöhnliche Weise: In Schriftform überlieferte Berichte von Zeit- und Augenzeugen werden mittels Re-Enactments neu zur Sprache gebracht. In der Ringvorlesung wird aus interdisziplinärer Perspektive der Frage nachgegangen, ob die politischen Umbrüche von 1989 zu neuen (trans-)nationalen, medienübergreifenden und (post-)memorialen Formen der Repräsentation der Shoah geführt haben und wie diese sich kennzeichnen lassen. Es wird aufgezeigt, wie verschiedene Darstellungsformen sich entwickelt und verändert haben, wie sie sich innerhalb historischer, erinnerungskultureller und ästhetischer Kontexte verorten lassen und wie die einzelnen wissenschaftlichen Disziplinen die (neuen) Repräsentationen bewerten.
Die Ringvorlesung wird gefördert durch die Landesforschungsförderung Hamburg.
cinefest 2014 mit neuen Wegen im Dokumentarischen.In den 1960ern erlebte der dokumentarische Film einen fundamentalen Wandel. Durch 16mm-Kameras und tragbare Tonbandgeräte waren nun unkompliziert synchrone O-Ton-Aufnahmen möglich, was auch großen Einfluss auf Stil und Temen hatte. Mit diesen mobilen Kameras war es nun möglich, ganz nah am Geschehen zu sein. Eine weitere Veränderung brachten die verschiedenen Video-Formate mit sich: Sie ermöglichten längere durch gehende Aufnahmen, erschwerten allerdings auch die Montage.Diese technischen Veränderungen trafen auf einen gesellschaftlichen Umbruch: Proteste gegen Vietnamkrieg und Notstandsgesetze, gegen Atomkraft und für eine liberalere Gesellschaftsordnung. Da die etablierten Medien – Fernsehen und Presse – diese oppositionellen Strömungen oft ignorierten oder sogar bekämpften, bildeten sich verschiedene Formen einer Gegenöffentlichkeit heraus – Videogruppen und Medienzentren entwickelten alternative Vertriebs- und Präsentationsformen, das »Andere Kino« entstand. Eine andere wichtige Entwicklung im politischen Dokumentarfilm ist der Essayfilm, der im Gegensatz zum beobachtenden Direct Cinema vor allem durch Montage eine subjektive Sichtweise pflegt. Ein weiterer Schritt sind Experimente mit Mischformen aus dokumentarischen und fiktionalen Elementen."
Unter dem provokanten Titel Deutsche Bilder präsentieren Mitglieder des Projekts gemeinsam mit dem Leiter der Duisburger Filmwoche, Werner Ružička, zwei Filmprogramme, die technische Voraussetzungen, Praktiken, Verfahren und Themensetzungen dokumentieren. Der Titel verweist einerseits auf die Ressourcen, aus der diese Filme finanziert wurden, stellt aber auch die Frage nach nationalen Besonderheiten und wie man diese charakterisieren könnte. Das Programm Mädchen mit Zwanzig betrachtet in sechs Filmen – entstanden zwischen 1960 und 1987 – die sich wandelnde Rolle der Frau anhand zweier Generationen aus Ost- und Westdeutschland. Das zweite Programm, Turbine, untersucht – ebenfalls für beide Teile Deutschlands – die Beziehung zwischen Formen industrieller Produktion und der gesellschaftlichen Organisation. Die vier Filme aus den Jahren 1949 bis 1964 zeigen heldenhafte Arbeit und einen verordneten Optimismus, kontrastiert mit der Realität sterbender Dörfer und der zunehmenden Trennung von ruralen und urbanen Lebenskontexten. Außerdem werden Filme der 1952 in Göttingen gegründeten Encyclopaedia Cinematographica (EC) gezeigt, die die Welt der Bewegungen enzyklopädisch dokumentieren wollte."
