Its major progress is the visibility it has achieved, particularly in the 1990s. Its main strategy, currently, aims to take it nearer to the symbolic center of power by going "over the rainbow" into a realm where homosexuality is normal. This objective, however, raises problems as it tends to promote a somewhat "ideal" – hence inaccurate – image of the..

The United States is in many ways a paradigmatic model for LGBTQ movements in other countries. Sexuality, Subjectivity, and LGBTQ Militancy in the United States focuses on the transformations of the US LGBTQ movement since the 1980s, highlighting the relationship between its institutionalization and the disappearance of sexuality from its most visible claims, so that its growing visibility and legitimation since the 1990s have paradoxically led to a decrease in grassroots militancy. The book examines the issue from the bottom up, identifying the links between the varying importance of sexuality as a movement theme and actors’ mobilization, and enhances the im...

Their history is one of gradual acculturation. But they are adamant that the French culture is still alive, although it was dramatically affected by social change in the 1950's. Most Franco-Americans think of their ethnic group as a success of the Melting Pot. But this rather tends to show that they are not ready to face their status as a minority.
