However, the consequence could be detrimental if all risks were not explained appropriately to the patient. Aim To investigate if all relevant risks were patient-consented before elective and urgent cholecystectomy and appendicectomy. Method A prospective audit was conducted at a District General Hospital for 2 weeks in September 2022 by checking the consent forms of the respective procedure. Peer-reviewed leaflet produced by EIDO Healthcare was used as the standard. Intervention was done by preparing a checklist of procedural risks to be used by the consenter. The data was collected for 2 weeks in October 2022 and analysed using Microsoft Excel. Results For cholecystectomy (n=15), 12 were done electively and 3 were urgent. Out of the 17 common cholecystectomy risks, 9 were discussed in all consents post-intervention comp...
Recently named a global health emergency by the World Health Organization, the Monkeypox Disease ... more Recently named a global health emergency by the World Health Organization, the Monkeypox Disease (MPXD) has gained attention due to its widened geographical distribution outside of Africa and also due to the novel sexual transmission route. The index case in Europe was from a Nigerian traveler. This study assessed public awareness and knowledge of the MPXD by conducting an online, cross-sectional survey of educated Nigerians. The study participants were recruited using the snowball sampling method between the 16 th to 29 th of August 2022. A total of 822 Nigerians were included in this study. More responses were retrieved from the Northeastern geopolitical region (30.1%, n = 220) than other regions. Our study participants had high awareness of MPXD (89%, n = 731/822) but only 58.7% (n = 429/731) of them had good knowledge of MPXD with a mean knowledge score of 5.31 ± 2.09. The main knowledge gaps were in the incubation period of the disease, the signs and symptoms, its mode of trans...

In the food industry TiO2 is Labelled as E171 according to the European Union legislation and it is used in many products such as sugar confectionery, chewing gums, candies, some cheeses and sauces, low-fat products such as skimmed milk, ice creams, and pastries with a percentage up to 3.88 mg of TiO2 per g of product. According to the literature, around 36% of TiO2 E171 particles are nanoparticles (NPs), which can cross the intestinal barrier reach the blood circulation then accumulate in the liver, spleen, kidneys, and lung tissues resulting in serious damage to these organs. The aim of this study is to use honey and thyme as natural coating materials to enhance the biocompatibility of three types of TiO2 E171 (anatase, rutile, and food grade). The physiochemical characteristics and bioactivity of TiO2 E1...

Study design: A quasi-experimental design was utilized to conduct this study. Setting: This study was conducted at Psychiatric Mental Health Hospital in Benha City, Qalyubiya Government. The hospital is affiliated to General Secretariat of Mental Health. Sample: Convenience subject of 40 family caregivers were chosen for conducting this study. Tools of Data collection: Three tools were used, I: Sociodemographic questionnaire for patients with schizophrenia and family caregivers. II: A caregivers' knowledge questionnaire about th...
The energy and nutritional demands of the parasitic lifestyle of Varroa mites have been demonstra... more The energy and nutritional demands of the parasitic lifestyle of Varroa mites have been demonstrated in this thesis, for the first time, through mite starvation and calorimetric experiments. The mites suck up to 28% of the non- replenishable reserve food of the capped brood that otherwise would have been consumed by the pupa during metamorphosis. This in turn leads to the emergence of crippled bees, and can be aggravated by viral, bacterial, and fungal infections. The antivarroa action of propolis (bee glue) has been investigated for the first time calorimetrically, respirometrically, and using the Petridish bioassay method. Propolis samples collected from different geographic origins showed Varroa narcotizing and varroacidal effects. The length of narcosis and mortality rate of mites depended on the solvent of extraction (70% or 40% ethanol, or water), concentration of propolis, and contact time. Propolis extracted in 70% ethanol has been found to be highly toxic, resulting in the ...

Polycythemia Vera (PV) is one of a related group of blood cancers known as “MyeloProliferative Neoplasm's” (MPNs) in which cells in the bone marrow that produce the blood cells develop and function abnormally. This study is conducted to explore the association of vitamin-Dreceptor (VDR) Polymorphism at the FOK1 site with the occurrence of polycythemia vera. Materials and methods: A total of 72 subjects were enrolled in this study, 35 with Polycythemia Vera and 37 healthy controls, Genomic DNA was extracted from patients’ blood samples by salting out method, and analyzed for determination of VDR start codon polymorphismFokI using PCR-RFLP (restriction fragment lengths polymorphisms). Results: The results showed that F/F genotype was the most frequent 23(65.7%) among patients with Polycythemia Vera, followed by the genotype F/f 11 (31.4%) and f/f 1 (2.9%) con...

It constitutes a severe challenge for public health worldwide. As stated by the International Diabetes Federation, there are presently about 246 million diabetic people around the world, and this number is anticipated to increase to around 380 million by the year 2025. More than this, 3.8 million death cases occur annually due to diabetes complications. The primary objective of this work is developing an applicable system to predict diabetes using distributed machine learning based on big data platforms such as Spark. In this context, this study aims to develop models using distributed machine learning based on Apache Spark to predict diabetes. Five machine learning classification methods were used like Decision Tree, Support Vector Machine, Logistic Regression Classifier, Naive Bayes, and Random Forest Classifier. Comparison between different algorithms was calculated using three measures, which are accuracy, recall, and precision. The experimental results proposed that LR achieved the highest percentage of accuracy, recall, and precision,82%, 92%, and 82%, respectively.

The present work aims to determine the possibility for biofuel production from non-edible plant (Water hyacinth) and waste cooking oils in addition to potential uses as source for glycerol, pigments and antioxidant compound sources. this study aimed to investigate the feasibility of biodiesel production from water hyacinth using two solvent systems (chloroform: methanol, 2:1v/v and Hexane), Moreover, WCO applying one steps alkaline transesterification process using methanol, NaOH (0.25) and KOH (0.25, 0.5 and 1g) as a catalyst and hot distilled water for purification. both produced biodiesel (from Eichhornia and WCO) was characterized using FTIR and some chemical constant such as IV, SV and AV. The highest biodiesel produced from Eichhornia recorded with chloroform: methanol system when compared with Hexane. However, the highest biodiesel produced ...
