The present study employs lexical bundles (LBs) automatically retrieved from a consecutive interpreting corpus to demonstrate the complexity involved in determining the causal factors that may account for this phenomenon. The analysis of the ST‒TT descriptive data demonstrates three regular patterns involved in LB introduction into and recurrence in the interpreted texts, namely, simple addition, repetitive addition and quasi-repetitive addition. By considering the additions of LBs in context, we may illustrate the complexity of possible causation involved.

Firstly, it has led to a range of intriguing empirical findings. Secondly, this revival exemplifies a more profound development in the field. This paper argues that the trajectory of this concept is one example of how cognitively oriented explanatory models are driving an integration of product- and process-based approaches to translational phenomena. In order to better understand this development and to investigate its potential to change Translation Studies, the paper first provides a brief historical overview and then proceeds to decompose the concept into key constituent parts. Two constituent concepts will be used as the basis for identifying the alternative ways in which product and process-oriented approaches have studied the same phenomenon. Abstract A general curriculum in research methodology for doctoral students in translation studie... more Abstract A general curriculum in research methodology for doctoral students in translation studies should focus on the underlying logic of the research process, including delimitation of the research question, choice of research design for empirical studies and evaluation of research quality. In this paper, these elements are briefly introduced, and means of working on them in doctoral seminars are suggested. One of the teaching methods advised is working through a sample research case and this approach is illustrated in the paper, using the gravitational pull hypothesis (Halverson 2003). The emphasis is on illustrating a dynamic research process as a means of teaching about the commitments that research involves at various levels, about the intellectual and practical challenges that emerge, about the quality requirements that pertain and about how to steer a course through unknown terrain with the navigational tools at our disposal.

Within translation studies, there remains a certain amount of unnecessary discord concerning the ... more Within translation studies, there remains a certain amount of unnecessary discord concerning the use of the equivalence concept and its relevance for translation theory. In the interest of better understanding the various points of view, it seems helpful to consider different perspectives on this concept in light of the varying philosophical assumptions on which they are based. Analogies between the equivalence concept and a concept of scientific knowledge as it is and has been studied within the philosophy of science are highly informative in pointing out the philosophical issues involved in equivalence, translation, and knowledge. Rather than dismissing the concept as ill-defined or imprecise, it is in the interest of the field of translation studies to consider the origins and manifestations of this 'imprecision ' in order that we may be better informed and less inclined towards theoretical antagonism.

In the course of a in-depth examination of the stages involved in the selection of texts which adequately represent the target population, it demonstrates that prototype categories are better suited than the all-or-none classical ones to reconcile existing theoretical statements about what constitutes legitimate data in translation studies with the new methodology developed by the corpus-based approach.
