Hans-Joachim Gleichmann
Hans-Joachim Gleichmann hatte an diesen Arbeiten häufig Anteil.
Hans-Joachim Gleichmann grew up in Siegerland (Germany) during the last 10 years of operation of the once famous iron ore mine there. Father and grandfather worked here as qualified mining engineers in managerial positions, family life was strongly influenced by the mines and processing plants. After the closure of all Erzbergbau Siegerland AG operations, the father, Hans Dietrich Gleichmann, was forced to turn to another professional activity, but remained true to the Siegerland mining industry in that he worked intensively on its history in numerous publications.
Hans-Joachim Gleichmann often took part in this work. He studied law, passed both legal state exams in the 1980s and, in addition to his education and later professional activity, dealt intensively with historical mining law (e.g. with Prof. Dr. Hans-Ernst Folz at the Philipps University of Marburg) and the history of mining . He has been living in the Harz Mountains for around 30 years, where he worked as a district judge and most recently as district court director until he retired. The Gleichmann family originally came from the Upper Harz mining district, where the great-grandfather had served as a head foreman of miners at the Hilfe Gottes pit in Bad Grund.

Papers by Hans-Joachim Gleichmann
The iron ore mining in Siegerland, which was completely discontinued in 1965, seemed to have been forgotten for a long time. Its technical monuments have often been disregarded, demolished or vandalized to this day. Apart from a few islands of tradition, the millennia-old mining of the Siegerland ores seemed to have become largely only an area of interest for mineral collectors but also for an increasing number of adventurous, but mostly illegal visitors of the disused mine workings.
Only recently has awareness slowly changed. Young, well-trained scientists have discovered historical mining and metallurgy as a specialist area with a great deal of diligence and energy, but also with career awareness. Their research and increasing number of publications, often in archaeological areas, seem to put the traces left by the Siegerland miners back in the focus of attention of the local population as well.
The new edition of the "Füsseberg" with its detailed history of this important Siegerland mine, which is made easy to understand with many illustrations and which was left by one of the last technically experienced contemporary witnesses, is intended to promote this positive development, but at the same time to build a bridge between the "old" mining and mining industry Homeland research and today's sense of entitlement to scientific processing.
Numerous photographs of the current underground situation, which were taken during safety inspections over the past decade, also illustrate the subject.
