The researchers developed a Self-assessment Instrument for Teacher Evaluation (SITE) based on five National Professional Standards for Teachers developed by the Ministry of Education, Pakistan. Using a convenient sampling method, 279 English or Mathematics teachers of grade 10 in 40 public boys’ and girls’ high schools in district Okara were surveyed who self-evaluated their performance on the SITE II. Additionally, based on the Lahore Board’s annual matriculation examination results 2014, the achievement scores in English or Mathematics (n=7245) of students were also collected from teachers. The study found positive, weak or moderate, relationships between teacher evaluation scores and student achievement in English, as well as in Mathematics. The findings also revealed that Subject Matter Knowledge, Instructional Planning and Strategies, Assessment...

The observed ionization peaks are identified as the atomic even-parity Rydberg states resulting from the absorption of two photons by the lithium dimer from the 0953-4075/29/10/001/img6 state to an excited

Significant mean squares for general combining ability (GCA), specific combining ability (SCA) and reciprocal combining ability (RCA) indicated joint role of additive, non-additive and maternal effects for the expression of days to maturity, fruit length and fruit yield per plant. The predictability ratio of GCA/SCA variance was less than 1 for days to maturity, plant height, number of fruits per plant, fruit weight, fruit length and fruit yield per plant showing preponderance of non-additive gene effects while it was more than 1 for fruit weight indicating predominance of additive gene effect. Among parents, B26 and B27 were found good general combiner for yield and some of the yield related traits studied. The hybrids viz. B23 x B27, B25 x B26 and B24 x B27 had significant ...

We investigated the protective activity of Dendropanax morbifera (DP), a medicinal plant which has been widely used to treat infectious and pain diseases, on acute kidney injury (AKI) using cisplatin-induced nephropathic models. Both in vitro renal tubular cells (NRK-52E) and in vivo rat models were used to demonstrate the nephroprotective effect of DP. Methanolic extract from DP significantly reduced cisplatin-induced toxicity in renal tubular cells. Through successive liquid extraction, the extract of DP was separated into n-hexane, CHCl3, EtOAc, n-BuOH, and H2O fractions. Among these, the CHCl3 fraction (DPCF) was found to be most potent. The protective activity of DPCF was found to be mediated through anti-oxidant, mitochondrial protective, and anti-apoptotic activities. In in vivo rat models of AKI, treatment with DPCF significa...

Around 1000 workers are involved in the removal of salt from these mines. More than 40,000 visitors come annually to see the mines. The visitors and workers are directly exposed to the internal and external radiological hazards of radon and gamma rays in these mines. The general public is affected by the intake of the salt containing the naturally occurring radionuclides. Therefore the concentration of radon (²²²Rn) in the Khewra Salt Mines and activity concentrations of the naturally occurring radionuclides in the salt samples from these mines were measured. Both active and passive techniques were employed for the measurement of radon with Radon Alpha Detector (RAD-7) and SSNTD respectively. The concentration of ²²²Rn was 26 ± 4 Bq m⁻³ measured by the active method while 43 ± 8 Bq m⁻³ was measured by the passive method. The activity concentration of the...

The extract at doses of 10, 30 50 and 100 mg/kg was administered intraperitoneally in acute diuretic model. Furosemide (10 mg/kg i.p) was used as standard drug. Total urine volume and urinary excretion of electrolytes were measured. Preliminary phytochemical tests were also performed using standard procedures. The extract exhibiteda significant dose dependent diuretic effect at all the doses when compared to control group. Urinary excretion of sodium was significantly increased by the extract while a significant increase in potassium excretion was only observed at higher doses. Phytochemical analysis illustrated that the extract contained compounds such as alkaloids, saponins, tannins, flavonoids, cardiac glycosides and reducing sugars. It is conceivable therefore that the aqueous methanolic extract of P. flavidum contain certain biologically active compounds that might be responsible for the diuretic activity.

The speckle contrast is measured with different pulse driving conditions. It can be observed from the measurement that the speckle contrast reduces with the increasing of pulse duration and pulse amplitude. The highest speckle contrast reduction that can be achieved with the red and the blue lasers is 27.9% and 10.4% respectively. The reduction of speckle contrast is due to the shift of emission wavelength and the incoherence of the laser beam at high driving current.
