There were 1957 eligible respondents without psychiatric history. Of these, 1805 people (92.2%) completed the 2-month follow-up questionnaire.Main outcome measuresSix depression help-seeking messages were prepared with three frames (neutral, loss and gain framed)×2 formats (formatted and unformatted). Participants were asked to rate one of the messages in terms of comprehensibility, persuasiveness, emotional responses, design quality and intended future use. Help-seeking intention for depression was measured using vignette methodology before and after exposure to the messages. Subsequent 2-month help-seeking action for their own mental health (medical service us...

The aims of our study were to prospectively analyze the clinical significance of CRF, and to evaluate the cumulative incidence of CRF and the survival rates of 16 MM patients who were treated with PIs and IMiDs. Reactivation of salivary human herpes virus (HHV)-6 and HHV-7 was analyzed using real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR). CRF was evaluated using a visual analog scale (VAS). Eleven newly diagnosed multiple myeloma (NDMM) and five relapsed or refractory MM patients were enrolled in this study. The cumulative incidence of CRF was 54.9%. The treatment types were not associated with the CRF incidence. The cumulative incidence of reactivation of HHV-6 and HHV-7 was 73.1% and 45.6%, respectively. However, the reactivation of HHV-6 and HHV-7 was not related to CRF. The overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) in NDMM patients with CRF was significantly shorter than in those without CRF. In conclusion, CRF was one of the major symptoms in MM patients, and predicted shorter OS and PFS in NDMM patients.

However, no study has determined safe anesthetics for monitored anesthesia care during epiduroscopy. We aimed to compare and evaluate conventional monitored anesthesia care drugs with dexmedetomidine. A retrospective study including all patients who underwent epiduroscopy at the JR Tokyo General Hospital from April 2011 to March 2016 was designed. The epiduroscopy procedures were performed under anesthesia with dexmedetomidine plus fentanyl (dexmedetomidine group) or droperidol plus fentanyl (neuroleptanalgesia group). Patients who received analgesics other than fentanyl, another analgesic combined with fentanyl, any sedative other than dexmedetomidine or droperidol, or who had incomplete data were excluded. We compared (1) the type and dose of medication during the epiduroscopy and (2) the incidence of postoperative nausea and vomiting. We identi...

Providers need to incorporate audience's perspective to design more persuasive messages. This study aimed to develop rating scales for measuring audience's perception of effectiveness of health messages in Japanese people. The comprehensibility scale including five items and the persuasiveness scale including seven items were designed based on literature review. A cross-sectional web-based survey was conducted among Japanese adults aged 35-45 years to assess the reliability and validity of the scales. Participants were asked to rate a text message that encouraged help-seeking intention for insomnia. All scale items were scored on a 1-to-5 point Likert scale, and they were averaged to produce an overall score for each scale. Explanatory factor analysis revealed a two-factor solution that agreed with the comprehensibility and persuasiveness scales, respectively. Correla...

A total of 1362 eligible cases involving compensation for mental disorders (422 females and 940 males) were analyzed. Among males, 55.7% of cases were attributed to "long working hours." In both sexes, the frequencies of cases attributed to "long working hours" and other events differed significantly by industry. Among cases involving compensation for suicide, 71.4% were attributed to "long working hours." The frequency distribution of work-related adverse events differed significantly by sex and industry. These differences should be taken into consideration in the development of industry-specific preventive measures for occupational mental disorders.

A generally accepted etiology of hydronephrosis involves the obstruction of urine flow along the urinary tract. In the recent years, we have developed a mouse model of hydronephrosis induced by lactational exposure to dioxin and demonstrated a lack of anatomical obstruction in this model. We also showed that prostaglandin Esynthesis system plays a critical role in the onset of hydronephrosis. In the present study, we found that neonatal hydronephrosis was not likely to be associated with functional obstruction (impaired peristalsis) but was found to be associated with polyuria and low urine osmolality with the downregulation of proteins involved in the urine concentrating process. The administration of an antidiuretic hormone analog to the dioxin-exposed pups not only suppressed the increased urine output but also...

However, to date, there are no studies reporting the state of compensation for cerebrovascular/cardiovascular diseases (CCVD) and mental disorders due to overwork or work-related stress among local public employees in Japan over multiple years. This report examined the recent trend of overwork-related CCVD and mental disorders, including the incidence rates of these disorders, among local public employees in Japan from the perspective of compensation for public accidents, using data from the Japanese Government and relevant organizations. Since 2000, compared to CCVD, there has been an overall increase in the number of claims and cases of compensation for mental disorders. Over half of the individuals receiving compensation for mental disorders were either in their 30s or younger. About 47% of cases of mental disorders were compensated due to work-related factors other tha...

Therefore, prognostic factors associated with early mortality are required to improve the survival of patients with PDA following surgical resection. Carbohydrate sulfotransferase 15 (CHST15) is responsible for the biosynthesis of sulfated chondroitin sulfate E (CS-E), which serves a pivotal function in cancer progression by cleaving CD44. CHST15 and CD44 expression in PDA tissue were assessed as a prognostic factor in patients with PDA following surgical resection. A total of 36 consecutive patients with PDA were enrolled following surgical resection between January 2008 and December 2014. The intensities of CHST15 and CD44 expression were analyzed by immunohistochemical staining. The recurrence period was significantly earlier in the strong CHST15 expression group compared with the negative-to-moderate CHST15 expression group. Overall survival (OS) was also...
