Hossein Shahbazi-Alavi obtained his MS degree in Organic Chemistry from the University of Kashan, Iran, in 2013, on the study of synthesis of phthalazine derivatives under solvent-free conditions. He has also received his PhD degree under the supervision of Professor Javad Safaei-Ghomi at the same university.

Lead tungstate (PbWO4) nanostructures have been synthesized via a sonochemical method based on the reaction between lead (II) nitrate and sodium tungstate dihydrate in an aqueous solution. Some advantages of this protocol include use of simple and readily available starting materials, rapid assembly of medicinally privileged heterocyclic molecules, reusability of the catalyst, low amount of the catalyst and application of the sonochemical methodology as an efficient technique and innocuous means of activation in synthetic chemistry.

The catalyst was characterized by 1 H NMR spectroscopy, dynamic light scattering (DLS), scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The remarkable advantages of this methodology are easy work-up, short reaction times, high to excellent product yields, operational simplicity, low catalyst loading and use of ultrasonic irradiation as a valuable and powerful technology.

A proper, atom-economical, straightforward one-pot multicomponent synthetic route for the synthesis of 1,3-thiazoles in good yields has been devised using crosslinked sulfonated polyacrylamide (Cross-PAA-SO3H) tethered to nano-Fe3O4. The catalyst has been characterized by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), scanning electron microscope (SEM), dynamic light scattering (DLS), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and vibrating-sample magnetometer (VSM).

The use of a non-hazardous organic solvent, easy recovery of the catalyst, compatibility with various functional groups, and high yield of the products make the protocol attractive, greener, and economic.

Atom economy, a wide range of products, excellent yields in short times, reusability of the catalyst, and low catalyst loading are some of the important features of this protocol.
