It is attested to by the desperation of young people wishing to migrate to other parts of the world in search of greener pastures. Given such desperation, some young people have done unprintable things to realise their economic dreams. Governments in some African countries have not helped matters. The Church has its share of the hydra-headed monster of poverty among young people by its failure to address the problem proactively. The consequence is that some young people in the Church have been behaving recklessly, thus undermining the principles of Christian ethics in their bid to become economically empowered. The Church needs an economic model to respond to the economic plight of young people. Therefore, this paper examined Igbo's mentorship in business, the need for Church response to economic empowerment of young people in Nigeria and prototypes of mentorship in the Church. The paper recommends that the Church should identify young people who are interested in mentoring and identify its adult members that are willing to mentor young people in business. However, scholars and writers of different intellectual hues have used various imageries to describe this brand of Christianity brought to Africa by the European missionaries visa -vis the commitment of some African adherents to their new faith. Some schools of thought have said that Christianity in Africa is like a broad but shallow river. Others believe that the Christian faith in Africa was only skin deep. Still, some considered the following aphorism a costly joke: African Christianity was one mile long but one inch deep. However, the aphorism is suitable for the focus of this paper, given the assertion that African Christianity was "a mile wide and an inch deep." The assertion is significant for the topic of this paper: "a reflection on 'a mile wide and an inch deep' Christianity in Africa and its implications for spiritual awakening in the contemporary church with an emphasis on Nigeria." Therefore, the paper discussed the indications and factors responsible for the phenomenon.
