Paradoxically, counter to the arguments of its detractors (mainly under the agency theory), empirical studies have mostly investigated the role of slack in business performance, measured primarily in terms of profit. These studies have resulted in mixed results, but nevertheless highlight various types of slack, with potentially rather different functions in performance. The overall objective of this study is to empirically test types of financial slack that influence growth, and that most contribute to high growth. Results show the influence of two types of slack influencing high growth: potential slack (debt capacity) and absorbed slack (asset turnover). Growth would rely more on the ability of the business to leverage its resources, than on the resource levels per se.

Psychological reactance and relationship proneness highlights the level and nature of commitment ... more Psychological reactance and relationship proneness highlights the level and nature of commitment of the consumer in relational context. After presenting these two personality variables the research proposes some interactions between them through two empirical studies. Study 1 based on qualitative approach evaluates positive and negative motivations to contract a formal commercial commitment. Study 2 based on a survey in a medical context shows the existence of four groups of individuals according to their level of psychological reactance and relationship proneness. A main effect of relationship proneness on commitment is shown as well as an interaction effect between psychological reactance and relationship proneness.
