For all Tesla fans and for everyone who wants to know more about this avant-garde but modest inventor, the two-part short documentary presented is an excellent depiction of his failures, triumphs, and steadfast devotion to his innovative science projects that have profoundly transformed our everyday lives.
By portraying Nikola Tesla's lifelong struggles and his deep love for humanity through his ingenious inventions, this video also highlights the contributions of countless heroes who use their scientific knowledge & talents to make our planet a better place!

It Is about the celebration of Nikola Tesla's 166th Birthday at The Tesla Science Center. The two-day exhibit plus the lightning of the Tesla Coil was simply mesmerizing. Hope all readers will enjoy reading this short article and view the visual images.
My very first Linked In Article dedicated to writing about the Annual Nikola Tesla Conference at The New Yorker Hotel in Manhattan, New York City on Saturday, January 15th, 2022. I believe this article will be a great read for everyone who are Nikola Tesla fans or simply want to know more about electrical and mechanical engineering in general!
VIDEO PORTFOLIO by Jau-Yon Chen, PhD
Rather, it is a powerful testament to one's character and true intentions of holding political office. These former heads of state: the late Mikhail Gorbachev of the Former Soviet Union, the late Nelson Mandela of South Africa, and Mr. José Mujica of Uruguay; are the definition of "politics being the art of the possible!"
I sincerely hope that after watching this 9:19 minute presentation; all viewers will not only gain a better understanding of what politics and public service are all about, but also feel deeply inspired by the wise leadership that these three political figures have demonstrated during their presidential mandates.
I made this unofficial promotional video of Taiwan for the May 2018 Annual Asian Heritage Festival in Columbus, Ohio. As it is my very first video, the quality is nowhere as good as other self-made travel videos on Taiwan. Despite the lackluster quality, this 5:55 minute presentation is the most comprehensive video of this beautiful Asian island. It presents Taiwan from a fully Taiwan-Centric rather than from a Sinocentric perspective, which is common in most vlogs and Youtube videos on Taiwan.
My video showcases places not usually shown in most Taiwan promotional videos; such as the Su-Ao Cold Springs, the former British Consulate in Kaohsiung, and relics left from the Dutch & Spanish presence on the island back in the 1600s. Most importantly, this video's key message is that there is a lot more to Taiwan than Chinese culture and traditions. Due its geographical location and history, Taiwan truly is a multifaceted island with the best of both Northeast and Southeast Asia.
For everyone interested in visiting the island after viewing this video; I extend you my warmest welcome.
TAIWAN (FORMOSA) IS ABSOLUTELY A PLACE THAT WILL TOUCH YOUR HEART AND EXCEED YOUR EXPECTATIONS!
Please share the video if you like it. THANK YOU :)!
This 6:46 minute video is proudly made by an E/ISFJ (Myers-Briggs), Type One with Two Wing (Enneagram), Steadiness+Conscientiousness (DISC) or Blue-White (The Color Code), and 5/1 Pure Generator (Human Design) Who is a Cancer-Gemini/Monkey (Astrology) with a Kapha/Pitta-Kapha Dosha (The Ayurveda) Plus a Divine-Assigned #3 Life Path (Numerology), LOL!!!
But seriously, the presentation is a culmination of a decade-long and still ongoing research & reading about psychometric indicators and spirituality. The video is a reflection of my core belief in personal growth and development. I sincerely hope viewers will enjoy watching this recording and become interested in maximizing the best version of yourselves!

EDUCATIONAL TED TALKS by Jau-Yon Chen, PhD
Another inspirational TED talk video, which transpired during the Black History Month of February, examining in-depth the purpose and true meaning of education through the presenter’s very own personal experience.
It is an incredibly encouraging and motivating video to watch, particularly for those not attending first-tier educational institutions and/or not earning top grades at their schools. The presenter’s story illustrates that there is much more to education, academia, and the entire scientific community than grade point average and pedigrees.
The main takeaways are: the spirit of education is not about the degree, grades nor the prestige of the institution attended; rather, it is about unwavering passion for one’s academic discipline and the resilience to persevere through the thick and thins, the highs and lows, and the ups and downs of life. And finally, the key to any type of success is to rise beyond your circumstances and make the best out of your situation!
This 15:07 minute TED Talk video by Dr. Freeman Hrabowski of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County is a perfect complement to my teaching philosophy. In this captivating and entertaining fifteen minute presentation, Dr. Hrabowski passionately advocates the need for a strong kindergarten-12th grade (K-12) math & science education as a solid foundation for a successful STEM career in later life.
Another inspirational short video on the importance of building an unshakeable foundation in math and science; this time, by the famous creator of the Khan Academy: Mr. Salman Khan. This eleven-minute talk is a perfect complement to Dr. Freeman Hrabowski's presentation on the four keys to a successful education and a rewarding career in the STEM [Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics] fields.
In addition to being a successful educational entrepreneur with impressive degrees from prestigious institutions [Bachelor and Master of Sciences from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Master of Business Administration from Harvard University], Mr. Khan is also an excellent writer and an extraordinary pioneer in education. His book: The One World School House, is a must read for everyone interested in the accessibility of a quality STEM education for all.

Rick Steves' Best Program Series! This one hour and thirteen-minute presentation is a must-watch video for: avid travelers, passionate socio-political activists, and anyone who simply cares about what's going in the world. The main message in this informative and entertaining lecture is that everyone can change the world through one travel at a time by learning and by practicing other countries' best attributes from their trips.

In this 10:17 minute video, Ms. Papi addresses the problems of volunteer travel, a booming and lucrative industry throughout the industrialized world for close to two decades. Prospective volunteers in developing nations must view this presentation as the presenter emphasizes the need for volunteers to learn in order to make a difference in their destination countries.

From my very esteemed former classmate in Howard University's African Studies Ph.D. program, Dr. Chika Ezeanya-Ebiosu's 14:10 minute TED Talk on authentic African development will blow everyone's minds away! Her presentation is a stellar example of excellent public speaking, as it comes from the heart and from her inveterate beliefs in Africa's innate potentials to develop itself without external assistance. IT IS A MUST WATCH VIDEO FOR EVERYONE INTERESTED IN DEVELOPING AND IMPROVING THEIR PUBLIC SPEAKING SKILLS!!!

This book is an update of my 2013 doctoral dissertation: "Migration as a Strategy of 'Authentic' Development? The Case of Senegal." The theme presented is: although migration from poor to rich nations is the unfortunate result of climate change, poverty, resource scarcity, and socio-political upheavals; at the same time, this deeply entrenched and ongoing phenomenon can also be a powerful force transforming the sending nation's overall capacities through remittances of capital, cash, and most importantly, KNOWLEDGE.
A nation's development shouldn't be solely measured by quantitative criteria like Gross Domestic Product (GDP). It should also be assessed by its levels of human development such as: political openness and transparency, access to public services regardless of socio-economic status, gender equality, and fundamental respect for all types of differences [religion, sexual orientation, and even personality types].
Most significantly, on a greater scale, freedom is about maximizing one's potentials in all areas of life along with attaining genuine emotional satisfaction and spiritual fulfillment as true happiness!

A must-read article on the essence of great leadership. Team Croatia not only dazzled the world with its spectacular performance on the soccer field of the 2018 World Cup in Russia; most of all, the winning spirit of this team is demonstrated by the Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic's graciousness and modesty during the award ceremony. In contrast to the flamboyancy and extravagance of many "strong-men"/authoritarian heads of state, President Kitarovic is the paradigm of excellent female presidential leadership!

Robert Herjavec (One of the Most Famous Sharks on ABC's Shark Tank) succinctly lays out the five commandments for all prospective entrepreneurs. It is a must-read for everyone who wants to start their own businesses or simply just want to know the secrets to successful entrepreneurship!
Harvard Business Review's article narrates the complete story of the loyal and heroic hotel workers who went above and beyond their call of duty. Their selfless and extraordinary heroic sacrifices to protect their guests were also made into a film titled "Hotel Mumbai" back in 2018.
This magazine article will touch your heart, and above all, penetrate your soul! It is a must read for everyone who is interested and passionate about: snow leopards, animal rights, and environmental conservation. By telling the stories of dedicated individuals and their plights to save the snow leopards of Kyrgyzstan, the article highlights how rural community development is deeply intertwined with the protection of an endangered species.
As an apex predator, snow leopards are not only the spirit of Asia's highest mountains; most of all, these beautiful, graceful, majestic, powerful, and regal felines serve as vital health indicators of their local ecosystems. When they are abundant, the local environment prospers; and when they are not, the environment is also in jeopardy. Lastly, although I'm not from any of the twelve snow leopard range nations/regions [Afghanistan, Bhutan, East Turkestan (Xinjiang) India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, Tibet, and Uzbekistan]; as an Asian, I'm extremely proud that these stunning, elusive "Ghost Cats" only exist on the Asian Continent!

This biographical article chronicles the late Marie Colvin’s personal struggles with alcohol addiction and battle with post-traumatic stress disorder while simultaneously portrays her bravery and passion for journalism, which led her to make the ultimate sacrifice on the battlefields of Homs, Syria on February 20th, 2012.
The article, along with the documentary film (released in December 2018) about this extraordinary former foreign affairs field correspondent for Britain's The Sunday Times, are heartfelt tributes to all courageous journalists worldwide who have given their lives to uncover the truths and to present the voices of the voiceless.
Their courageous acts raise the ethical question of whether or not medical professionals and health care workers can remain truly "impartial" in the middle of a contentious political situation. This paper is an excellent read for those interested in the ethics of humanitarianism versus political neutrality and medical resistance as a creative & non-violent political expression.
For me, the best part is that my article on Doctors Without Borders [posted in the Master's Thesis/Scholarly Articles section] is referenced in the second paragraph of page 4 under the section on "Medical Humanitarianism, Neutrality, and Atmospheric Violence!"
These movements reflect one of Amartya Sen’s [Nobel Prize Winning Author of Development as Freedom] core concepts of freedom, political: where desires to speak one’s mind without repercussions, is indeed an universal value!
This article not only highlights the crucial role that Taiwan has played since 2016 in helping to promote and safeguard democracy in Asia; most importantly, it is a phenomenal read for everyone who deeply cares about democracy and for those who are interested in recent socio-political happenings throughout the Pacific Rim.
For the record, my paper "Seeing Taiwanese Nationalism From a Pan-African Perspective: Kwame Nkrumah's Philosophies and Frantz Fanon's Theories Applied to the Taiwan Independence Movement" is referenced towards the concluding section at the bottom of page 25!
What makes Japan an unique and a truly one of a kind nation is showcased in this incredibly original fashion project for the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympic Games. From the hot and humid Brazilian tropical wetlands of Pantanal, a group of dedicated scientists, led by the late Dr. Alan Rabinowitz of Panthera, gave their all to save the jaguar: the most iconic big cat of the Americas. This thirteen minute documentary is also the triumphant story of Dr. Rabinowitz.
His promise to a male jaguar at the Bronx Zoo as a young boy gave him the will to overcome his uncontrollable speech stutter, which had haunted him throughout his childhood. As an adult, he became one of the most important voices for jaguars and many other endangered wild animals. Sadly, he lost the battle to lymphatic cancer on August 5th, 2018. Despite passing away at the age of 65, he has left a profound impact because his voice and passionate pleas for wildlife conservation were heard around the world.
Nominated as one of the five contenders for the 2021 Oscar Award in the best short documentary category; this 35:38 minute film is not just about Hong Kong’s fierce street battles against China’s increasingly authoritarian presence, it is also the story of global struggles for democracy, human rights, and basic political freedoms.
Through live, unfiltered scenes of Hong Kong’s mass demonstrations against China’s continuous judicial encroachments in its Special Administrative Region; Do Not Split shows the sacrifices many courageous protestors have made to safeguard their homeland’s precarious autonomy and to advocate for its eventual independence from the People’s Republic of China. This short documentary is a must-watch because it is a tribute to all social activists and human rights advocates around the world.

Mr. Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, also known by his stage name Bobi Wine, is a renowned musician activist who was elected to the Ugandan Parliament back in July 2017. This two-hour film documents his incredible rise from the ghettos of the capital city Kampala to one of Uganda's 2021 top presidential contenders. Despite losing the presidential bid, Kyagulanyi's election as Africa's very first musician parliamentarian represents fervent calls for political change, social progress, and genuine democracy across the African continent.
Nominated as one of the five contenders for the 2024 Academy Awards in Best Feature Documentary; it is a must watch documentary for everyone interested in music, democracy, human rights, and creative ways of socio-political activism!
A Seven Part 15-Minute Film in English with Traditional Chinese Subtitles documenting Estonia's triumph in regaining its independence from the former Soviet Union in 1991. THIS IS A STORY THAT MUST BE TOLD; as the Estonian people have redefined the meaning of "revolution."
By singing traditional folk songs that were banned during the half-century of brutal Soviet occupation, the Estonian people found an inner courage to face their powerful former occupier to peacefully reclaim their lost sovereignty since 1944. The Singing Revolution is a worth-watch because the beautiful presentation of Estonia songs throughout this film will deeply touch your heart!
A docudrama portraying both the positive outcomes and the devastating consequences of Wiki Leaks. It demystifies Julian Assange [with Benedict Cumberbatch as Assange] by revealing the true intentions of his controversial Wiki Leak project. It is a movie for everyone who cares about press freedom.
This film not only examines in-depth the media's role as the fifth estate in safeguarding democracy; but most significantly, it raises the thought-provoking question of the fine line between the public's right to know and personal privacy as a fundamental human right.
