Method for real time recording and playback of data to and from an optical recording medium, and ... more Method for real time recording and playback of data to and from an optical recording medium, and the method for managing a file thereof is disclosed. In the present invention, the host controls real time data writing by providing a signal requesting for information on defective area to the device for recording/playback of data to/from an optical disk before providing a write command. Accordingly, the write command is generated such that data is not written on the defective areas based upon the returned information on the defective area. Alternatively, the host may first provide a write command to the device for recording/playback of data to/from an optical disk, upon which information on defective areas is returned. Thus, the host generates and provides a new write command such that data is not written on defective area based upon the returned information on the defective area.

In stereophonic acoustic echo canceller, the filter coefficients of the adaptive filters for echo cancellation do not have unique solutions and not converge to their optimum values. Therefore, the change of the far-end transmission room environment leads to degradation of ERLE(Echo Return Loss Enhanceement). Moreover, their computational complexity increases as the number of the filter coefficient increases, and their adaptive filters converge very slowly. So the real-time implementation is very difficult. To overcome these problems we propose a pre-processor consisting of an adaptive filter for making pseudo stereophonic signal, and it results in improved performance at the instant of environment change at far-end side and reduction of the total complexity

Due to the strong correlation between the two channel signals, stereophonic echo canceller have various problems. Moreover, the computational complexity is about four times of the single channel system. In this paper, we introduce a pre-processing block deployed on the stereophonic echo canceller to generate the pseudo stereophonic signals. By utilizing the pseudo stereophonic signals, the echo signal can be estimated with single adaptive filter. The performance degradation due to the changes of the transmission room environment can be alleviated. Subjective tests show the validity of the pseudo stereophonic signals.

This chapter extends the definition of correntropy for the case of random (or stochastic) processes, which are index sets of random variables. In statistical signal processing the index set is time; we are interested in random variables that are a function of time and the goal is to quantify their statistical dependencies (although the index set can also be defined over inputs or channels of multivariate random variables). The autocorrelation function, which measures the statistical dependency between random variables at two different times, is conventionally utilized for this goal. Hence, we generalize the definition of autocorrelation to an autocorrentropy function. The name correntropywas coined to reflect the fact that the function “looks like” correlation but the sum over the lags (or over dimensions of the multivariate random variable) is the information potential (i.e., the argument of Renyi’s quadratic entropy). The definition of cross-correntropy for random variables carries over to time series with a minor but important change in the domain of the variables that now are an index set of lags. When it is clear from the context, we simplify the terminology and refer to the different functions (autocorrentropy, or crosscorrentropy) simply as correntropy function, but keep the word “function” to distinguish them from Chapter 10 quantities.

In contrast to the conventional Mercer's theorem approach that implicitly defines kernels by an eigendecomposition, the functionals in this reproducing kernel Hilbert space are explicitly constructed and are not necessary orthonormal. We also point out an intriguing connection between this reproducing kernel Hilbert space and a generalized Fock space. We give an experimental result on approximation of the constructed kernel to a Gaussian kernel
