The purpose of the study was to properly utilize cigarette butts, which were deemed to be useless, in giving solution to the rampant steel corrosions in Brgy. 31-D, Davao City. The independent variables of the study are the melted cigarette butts in acetone solution and stainless steel used, while the dependent variable is the steel’s resistivity against rust. The Fortune cigarette butt gained the lowest average corroded area, followed by More cigarette butt, which was lesser compared to the controlled group test, signifying that it is indeed effective. As temperature increases, the effectiveness of the independent variable decreases. Thus, the presence of nicotine from cigarette butts, specifically from Fortune and More cigarette butts, served as an oxidation film which lessened area of corrosion.
This qualitative study was conducted to discover the reasons why teachers stay or leave Our Lady ... more This qualitative study was conducted to discover the reasons why teachers stay or leave Our Lady of Fatima Academy of Davao, Inc. (OLFAI) after a few years. The researchers gathered data from 15 teachers who are in the beginning of their teaching career and have been working in OLFAI for the past 3 years. The data from the intensive semi-structured interview were then interpreted using thematic analysis. Results revealed that the school administration’s efforts may be classified in terms of workplace atmosphere, physical and mental well-being, remuneration, supervision, and professional development. They provide workshops, team-buildings, and special events in cultivating positive workplace atmosphere, allocate substitutions for sick employees who have to be absent, provide satisfactory salary with exclusive incentives like honorariums and the RVM retirement commission, supervise them through observations, and enhance their professional capabilities through in-school and out-school seminars. Moreover, the motivations of teachers primarily revolve on the environment of the workplace, particularly in terms of its management, the presence of appreciation among co-workers and administrators, and the distribution of workloads. Furthermore, it was also discovered that they have used the private schools as training grounds to gain work experience. The researchers’ qualitative research is all about the academic performance of students in homoge... more The researchers’ qualitative research is all about the academic performance of students in homogeneous (rank-based) or heterogeneous (mixed) sectioning. This study aims to discover the difference between becoming a student of a homogeneous or heterogeneous section at the Our Lady of Fatima Academy of Davao, Inc. involving their academic performance from school years 2015-2018 with the objective to know the reasons of the school administration’s past decisions why the students were sectioned that way and to give credible suggestions and propositions of how the OLFAI school administration should determine section composition among students. The theoretical basis of this study is rooted from the Labeling Theory of Edwin Lemert (1951) which states that people act in accordance with the way they are labelled as. This research utilizes stratified disproportional sampling via interview for the selection of respondents and data gathering. The data were treated using thematic or content analysis. The Grade 10 respondents were specifically stratified into 4 groups (GGG, FFF, FGF/GGF, and FGG) which corresponds to their sections from SYs 2015-2018. The gathered results yielded a positive remark in favor of heterogeneous sectioning from eight out of 12 respondents. Two of them chose homogeneous sectioning while two of them claimed that both are equally effective to a student’s academic performance. Therefore, the researchers have found that heterogeneous sectioning is a better sectioning scheme for the OLFAI students, prioritizing collective excellence over individual accomplishments.
