The Saildrone vehicles collected data on a 150-day cruise from Dutch Harbor, Alaska, within the B... more The Saildrone vehicles collected data on a 150-day cruise from Dutch Harbor, Alaska, within the Bering and Chukchi Seas to the ice edge and back during 15 May 2019 to 11 October 2019. Scientific objectives include collecting upper ocean temperature profiles with a full suite of ocean measurements, which could lead to significant improvements in modeling of diurnal warming. Additionally, these new data will provide additional Arctic SST observations to benefit SST algorithm development and validation, and collected additional data for studies of air- sea-ice interactions. The vehicles first encountered the ice edge around 15 June 2019 and by the beginning of August 2019 low power levels due to lack of sunlight resulted in payloads being turned off or reduced sampling intervals.
Recently discovered, angiotensin-converting enzyme-2 (ACE2) is an important therapeutic target in... more Recently discovered, angiotensin-converting enzyme-2 (ACE2) is an important therapeutic target in the control of cardiovascular diseases as a result of its proposed central role in the control of angiotensin peptides. Thus our objective in the present study was to determine whether ACE2 gene transfer could decrease high blood pressure (BP) and would improve cardiac dysfunctions induced by hypertension in the spontaneously hypertensive rat (SHR) model. Five-day-old SHR and normotensive WKY rats received a single intracardiac bolus injection of lentiviral vector containing either murine ACE2 (ACE2) or control enhanced green fluorescent protein (EGFP) genes. Systolic BP, cardiac functions, and perivascular fibrosis were evaluated 4 mo after ACE2 gene transduction. ACE2 gene transfer resulted in a significant attenuation of high BP in the SHR (149 ± 2 mmHg in lenti-ACE2 vs. 180 ± 9 mmHg in lenti-EGFP, P < 0.01). Una de las formas de depredación más efectivas del jaguar (Panthera onca) consiste en la aplicaci... more Una de las formas de depredación más efectivas del jaguar (Panthera onca) consiste en la aplicación de su fuerza de mordedura en el neurocráneo de los pecaríes, una de sus principales presas naturales, provocándole un estrés altamente compresivo que deviene en la posterior fractura del cráneo con una muerte rápida. En el presente estudio se analizaron mediante el método del cráneo seco, 15 cráneos completos y medidas craneométricas reportadas en la literatura, para jaguares adultos pertenecientes a diferentes subespecies o fenotipos del rango distributivo de P. onca. Afín de obtener sus fuerzas de mordedura canina y carnasial, esfuerzos de corte y momentos flexores máximos a lo largo del vano mandibular.La obtención de estas variables, en una estructura hiperestática se efectúo mediante el Método de Aproximaciones Sucesivas de Cross.
